Bearcats fourth at PAC Championship; Sundin named top newcomer

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 29) – Boasting two of the top-10 finishers and three of the top 20, the Saint Vincent men's cross country team finished fourth at the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship, contested at its home course.

Tim Patterson led the way for Saint Vincent, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25:55 to place second in a field of 122 runners and earn First Team All-PAC accolades.

Continuing his stellar rookie season, freshman Brady Sundin placed ninth in a time of 26:37 to place ninth overall. Along with being named a Second Team All-PAC performer, Sundin was also named the 2022 PAC Newcomer of the Year.

Aiden Jackson and Joe Bujdos each earned Honorable Mention All-PAC accolades, with Jackson placing 20th in 27:17.02 and Bujdos 21st in 27:17.12.

Matthew Thomas rounded out the Bearcats' scoring five with a time of 27:42, good for 28th overall.

The Bearcats' sixth through ninth runners were separated by just 20 seconds. Joey Jafarace turned in a time of 27:54 to place 33rd; Jeffrey Raynor 28:00 to take 35th; John Syms 28:01 to place 36th; and Ethan Wymer 28:13 to place 42nd.

In all, 12 Saint Vincent runners finished in the top half of the field, with Jacob Rzempoluch placing 52nd in 28:45, August Anderson 54th in 28:52, Jeremy Capella 55th in 28:57 and Jordan Raynor 61st in 29:11.

Led by individual champion Miguel Diaz, who turned in a winning time of 25:27, Franciscan University won the team title with 41 points. Allegheny placed second with 56 points, followed by Geneva in third (67) and Saint Vincent (80).

Grove City (114), Washington & Jefferson (132), Waynesburg (211), Thiel (246), Chatham (272) and Westminster (293) rounded out the 10-team field, with Bethany competing as individuals only.

Saint Vincent will now have a two-week layoff before returning to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by Lock Haven University.
