CRESSON, Pa, (October 9) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 non-conference win over the Mt. Aloysius Mounties. The win was the 75th of Coach Brian Niemiec's career at the helm of the men's and women's tennis teams.
In doubles play the freshman pairing of Emily Pierce and Rebecca Kurylo ran away with an 8-1 win at the third flight. Carolina Walters and Angela Popovich continued their dominate season at first double with an 8-2 win over the Mounties pairing. Abby Donnelly and Lydia Lieb played up in the second flight and claimed an 8-5 win.
With a firm lead to begin singles play the Bearcats kept the pedal on the floor and captured all six singles points in straight sets. First off was Bella Baumgardner with a 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles. Clinching the match for SVC was Walters with a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, her 11th win in that spot this season. Rounding out the singles wins were Popovich, Pierce, Lieb, and Donnelly at second, third, fourth, and sixth singles respectively.
The win has SVC sitting at 7-7 on the year heading into the PAC playoffs. The Bearcats' potential first round matchup is yet to be determined.
