PITTSBURGH (March 26) – The Saint Vincent men's and women's track and field teams closed out the two-day Carnegie Mellon Invitational by battling through strong winds and show showers to post a number of strong performances at blustery Gesling Stadium.
The Bearcats' best event on the afternoon was the 800-meter run. On the women's side,
Sydney Green turned in a new personal record time of 2:21.88 to place third in the 43-runner field, and first among non-Division-I participants.
The Bearcat men also had a strong day in the 800, led by junior
Joey Bujdos, who placed second in a field of 44 with a time of 1:57.03. He was one of three teammates to place in the top-10 of the event, with
Tyler Laughery placing seventh (2:00.80) and
John Hurley eighth (2:01.38).
Two Saint Vincent runners posted career marks in the 3,000 meter run, with
Lauren Brennan taking eighth out of 18 runners in a time of 11:50.01, while
Jacob Rzempoluch placed 13th on the men's side in 9:44.44.
Miranda Guthrie represented the SVC women in sprints, posting a time of 30.88 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 1:07.56 in the 400.
After thawing out, the Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they travel north to take part in the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University.
