Bearcats win fourth straight

LATROBE, Pa. (March 9) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 10-4 victory over visiting Muskingum University at a chilly Chuck Noll Field.

Five different Bearcats scored goals on the afternoon, led by a 4-goal performance from Tyler Condrasky, while Matthew Cassidy and Caleb Hawkins each had two goals and Carter Haid and Justin Wodarek added one apiece. Cassidy added an assist to finish with a 3-point day, while Jordan Billet dished a pair of helpers.

SVC goalie Noah Sperling made 13 saves in goal to earn the win and hold the Muskies (4-2) to just four goals, 11 under their season average.

Hawkins got the scoring underway 5:19 into the first quarter with an unassisted tally, before Condrasky scored his first of the day with 5:26 remaining in the quarter, assisted by Alec Richard. With just over two minutes left in the quarter, Cassidy scored, assisted by Hawkins, to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.

The Bearcats continued to add onto their lead over the second quarter, with Cassidy making it 4-0 off of an assist from Hawkins with 11:49 left in the frame, before Hawkins' second strike of the day made it 6-0 with 5:08 left in the half. The Muskies would break the shutout with just 12 seconds left in the half on a goal from Spencer Zecchini.

Two third quarter goals from Condrasky upped the Bearcat advantage to 8-1, before Wodarek answered a Musky tally with his second goal of the season to make it 9-2 with 11:16 left in the fourth quarter. Haid would then close out the Bearcat scoring with 3:55 left in the fourth quarter with his first goal of the season, assisted by Billet.

Along with Sperling's solid day in the net, the SVC defense received a number of strong performances. RJ Kenna, Ethan Cavin and Brady Beard each totaled two caused turnovers, with Kenna corralling four ground balls and Beard and Cavin three apiece. In all, 12 different Bearcats registered at least one ground ball, and nine finished with two or more.

The 4-0 start to the season is Saint Vincent's best since 2005, when SVC won its first six games en route to an 11-1 overall final record.

With the postponement of SVC's game scheduled for Saturday, March 12, against Allegheny, the Bearcats will now have a 10-day layoff before returning to action on Saturday, March 19, when they travel to Ohio to take on Marietta College at 7 p.m.
