BETHANY, W.Va. (April 20) – The Saint Vincent men's and women's track and field teams saw a host of strong performances at the John Falconi Invitational at Bethany College.
The SVC men and women combined to win six events and break two school records, while a number of Bearcats achieved personal bests.
Auggie Frohnen continued his big year in leading SVC in field events, as he established two school records. Frohnen placed second in a field of 15 throwers in the shot put with a heave of 13.08 meters, the best in school history, before following that up with a school-record throw of 37.12 meters in the discus to place fourth in a field of 14.
On the track, Saint Vincent's best event on the day proved to be the 5,000-meter run. On the women's side,
Lauren Brennan placed first in a time of 18:54.94, breaking her previous personal record by 30 seconds.
In the 9-runner 5K field on the men's side, Saint Vincent runners occupied the top six spots.
Tim Patterson led the way, placing first in 16:17.78, edging out teammate
Jeremy Capella's second-place time of 16:21.14.
Joey Jafarace placed third in 16:35.17, Jeffrey Raynor fourth in 16:46.27,
August Anderson fifth in a career-best 16:51.05 and
David Swisher sixth in a personal-record time of 17:19.16.
John Hurley earned a pair of first-place finishes, as he topped the 9-runner field in the 800-meter time in a career-best time of 2:00.20, before earning his second victory of the afternoon in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:08.76.
Also in the 800,
Aiden Jackson took fourth, while
Luke Mich established a new PR with a time of 2:10.97, bettering his previous top mark by more than two seconds.
Rounding out the SVC distance contingent,
John Syms placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:56.08.
Joey Bujdos and
Jacob Crestani led the SVC sprint contingent, with the former placing second in the 400 in a personal-best time of 51.

Bujdos, Patterson, Hurley and Jackson represented SVC in the 4x400 relay, placing first in a time of 3:38.23.
In the team standings, the Saint Vincent men placed second out of seven squads, while Brennan's win and Pontzer's runner-up finish placed the Bearcat women sixth in an eight-team field.
