MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 29) – The Saint Vincent men's track and field team closed out the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with two event wins, three All-PAC performances and a host of personal-bests.
Junior
Joey Bujdos turned in the Bearcats' most memorable performance of the two-day meet, held at West Virginia University's Mylan Park. Bujdos captured the conference title in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:52.30, breaking the previous PAC Championship record set by former Bearcat Laurence Jaross in 2018. It was a new personal-best for Bujdos, and the fourth-fastest 800 in Saint Vincent history.
Sophomore
Tim Patterson closed out his championship weekend by winning his second PAC title in as many days. Less than 24 hours after taking gold in the 10,000-meter run, Patterson placed first in the 5,000 with a time of 15:33.72, 15 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Patterson was one of four Bearcats to finish in the top half of the 34-runner field, as
Joey Jafarace placed 11th in a personal-best 16:16.03,
Jeremy Capella 14th in 16:26.38 and Jeffrey Raynor 16th in a season-best 16:38.98.
Bujdos and Patterson turned in two All-PAC finishes on day two of the championship, as they joined teammates
Tyler Laughery and
Collin Wilson to place third in the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:29.51.
Auggie Frohnen turned in a school-record performance in the shot put, placing fourth in a field of 32 student-athletes with a heave of 13.31 meters (43' 8"), topping his previous school mark by 18 inches.
In the 1,500-meter run,
John Hurley earned points for SVC with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 4:05.54. He was joined in the top-half of the 34-runner field by teammate
David Swisher, who finished 12th with a time of 4:18.34, topping his previous career-best in the event by seven seconds.
Braden Rankin (4:30.12) and
Luke Mich (4:38.72) also set new PRs.
Led by Bujdos' effort in the 800, the Bearcats placed five runners in the top-12 of the 28-runner event. Hurley turned in a career-best time of 1:58.81 to take seventh, one spot ahead of rookie
Aiden Jackson, who finished in a personal-record time of 2:00.99. Wilson placed 11
th in 2:08.68 and Laughery 12th in 2:02.18.
Jared Holmes led the SVC sprinters, turning in a personal-best time of 24.01 seconds in the 200-meter run.
Saint Vincent placed sixth in the team standings, amassing 47 points. Along with Patterson, Bujdos and the 4x400 team earning All-PAC laurels, SVC senior
David Swisher was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.
The Bearcats will now have a nearly two-week layoff before returning to action on Thursday, May 12, at the Marty Goldberg Invitational hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
