PRs shattered for Bearcats at Westminster

NEW WILMMINGTON, Pa. (April 9) – The Saint Vincent men's track and field team braved the wind, snow, hail and rain as it competed at the Westminster College Invitational.

Saint Vincent received a number of excellent performances across the board at Westminster.

Joey Bujdos continued his banner season with another first-place finish in the 800-meter run in 1:54.07, a new career-best and the fastest time in the event by a Presidents' Athletic Conference runner this season.

Bujdos was one of three Bearcats to finish in the top half of the 39-runner field in the 800, as teammate John Hurley placed ninth in a career-best 2:01.27 and Aiden Jackson 15th in 2:02.35, his top outdoor performance at the distance.

Saint Vincent's mid-distance runners also shined in the 1,500-meter run. Tim Patterson led the way, taking third in a 43-runner field in a career-best time of 4:00.08. Hurley turned in his second top-10 finish of the day by placing sixth in 4:12.81, one spot and less than a half second ahead of Tyler Laughery, who established a new PR in 4:13.21. David Swisher was a fourth SVC runner to finish in the top half of the field and the third to set a new PR in the 1,500 with a time of 4:27.94 to take 18th.

Four more Bearcat distance runners achieved new PRs. In the 5,000-meter run, Jeremy Capella placed 15th in a field of 46 in a time of 16:06.93, two seconds faster than his previous best set seven days earlier at Slippery Rock.

Two Bearcat freshmen placed in the top five in the 10,000-meter run, with Joey Jafarace taking third in a personal-best 34:13.42 and classmate August Anderson fifth in 34:33.10.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, John Syms raced to a time of 10:38.48, 20 seconds faster than his previous top mark.

Auggie Frohnen had a strong day to pace the Bearcats in the field. In the shot put, Frohnen placed fifth in a field of 36 with a season-best have of 12.67 meters (41'7"). Competing in the discus for the first time this season, Frohnen placed 13th out of 31 competitors with a throw of 32.03 meters (105'1").

The Bearcats will now have a 10-day layoff before returning to action on April 20 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference South Quad Meet at Bethany College.
