LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 13) – The Saint Vincent women's tennis team returned to winning ways with a 6-3 victory over Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup on the SVC Courts.
The Bearcats won two of three doubles matches before taking four of the six singles contests to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
The tandem of
Carolina Walters and
Angela Popovich earned SVC's first win of the season, taking the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-1 score.
Abby Donnelly and
Lydia Lieb promptly gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles, before Thiel claimed the No. 2 doubles match by a tight 8-6 score.
Popovich claimed SVC's first singles win, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot and was promptly followed by Walters' victory at No. 1 singles by an identical score. Donnelly then picked up the Bearcats' fifth win of the day to clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 spot. Lieb would then become another two-time winner on the afternoon by taking the No. 4 singles match by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Saint Vincent will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 15, when it takes to the road for the first time this fall with a 6 p.m. match at PAC foe Geneva College.
