LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 24) – The Saint Vincent College women's tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Washington & Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on the SVC Courts.
The Bearcats went 1-2 in doubles play, with the No. 3 duo of
Abby Donnelly and
Lydia Lieb winning by an 8-3 score, and SVC's other two doubles tandems falling in very tight matches. In the No. 1 spot,
Carolina Walters and
Angela Popovich were edged 8-7 (7-5), while the No. 2 duo of
Bella Baumgardner and
Emily Pierce falling 8-6.
Walters picked up the Bearcat singles win, with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Donnelly's match in the No. 6 spot went to a third-set tiebreaker, but the sophomore was eventually defeated, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The Bearcats will face a quick turnaround, returning to non-conference action on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a home match against Penn State-Altoona.
