LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 10)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team was defeated by Franciscan by a final score of 3-0 in the Bearcats PAC home opener on Tuesday night.

Saint Vincent fell by set scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-21 in the match.

Luciana Polk and
Kaelyn Staples were the lone Bearcats in double figures for kills, with Polk tallying 11 and Staples with ten. Polk also led the Bearcats with 13 digs in the loss as well.

Alexis DiFuccia was solid for SVC, recording seven kills and four blocks.
Madie Eagler tallied 30 assists and
Stacie Ramos added 12 digs, while
Nicolena Yanosick recorded ten.

It was all Barons from the start as Franciscan opened up to an 8-4 lead in the opening set. SVC cut into the lead at 15-13 after a kill from
Jessica Hughes and an attack error by the Barons.

Franciscan stayed on the attack, pushing their lead back up to four at 21-17 before closing out the set with the final four points to win the opening set (25-17), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

It was much of a similar story in the second set as the Barons jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the set. The Bearcats answered with a 4-1 run, which included a kill from Staples and Polk to cut the Franciscan lead to 8-6.

After the Bearcats tied the set up at 11-11 on kills by DiFuccia and Eagler, Franciscan regained the momentum. The Barons increased their lead back to six at 23-17 and won the set (25-19), taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set went back-and-forth early on as Saint Vincent tried to keep their hopes of winning the match alive. The Bearcats opened up to a 4-1 lead after four straight points on kills by Polks, Staples, and DiFuccia, mixed between a Franciscan error.

The Barons answered by tying the set up at 8-8 and it remained tied at 19-19. The Barons went on to score six of the final eight points to win the set (25-21), clinching the three-set sweep over Saint Vincent.

As a team, SVC recorded 34 kills, one service ace, seven blocks, 32 assists, and 64 digs.
Saint Vincent will have a quick turnaround as they remain at home to take on Allegheny on Thursday, October 12. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
