SVC Falls to Allegheny, 3-0

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 12)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team was defeated at home by Allegheny 3-0 in a PAC match on Thursday night in the Robert S. Carey Center.
 
The Bearcats lost by set scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 27-25.
 
Kaelyn Staples led the way for the Bearcats with 12 kills. Madie Eagler led the Bearcats with 24 assists. Stacie Ramos and Luciana Polk tallied 16 and 14 digs respectively. Polk also recorded six kills and Lauren Fox totaled four kills in the loss for the Bearcats.
 
Nicolena Yanosick picked up nine digs for SVC.
 
In the first set, it was all Allegheny as the Bearcats never led in the set. Allegheny opened up to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. The Gators increased their lead to 18-6. The Bearcats attempted to come back late in the set, closing the set out by outscoring the Gators 9-7, but it wasn't enough as Allegheny won the opening set (25-15), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
It was all SVC early in the second set as the Bearcats took a quick 4-0 lead on four straight attack errors by the Gators. Allegheny stormed back with an 8-4 run to tie the set up at 8-8. The teams traded the next several points, finding themselves tied once again at 20-20. Allegheny went on to score the final five points to win the set (25-20), increasing their lead to 2-0.
 
Saint Vincent once again jumped out to an early lead in the third set, scoring four of the first five points on kills by Alexis DiFuccia and Staples, mixed between two errors by the Gators as SVC led 4-1. The Gators answered by tying the match up at 20-20.
 
The Bearcats scored five of the next nine to take a 25-24 lead before the Gators closed the match out with three straight points to win the set (27-25), winning the match 3-0.
 
SVC tallied seven blocks as a team, while also recording 26 assists, 60 digs, and 29 kills over the course of the match.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, October 14 with another PAC matchup against Chatham. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at Chatham.
