LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 18)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team fell to Grove City 3-0 in the Robert S. Carey Center on Wednesday night.

The Bearcats lost by set scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-16.

Luciana Polk tallied nine kills for Saint Vincent, while
Kaelyn Staples and
Lauren Fox totaled six and five kills respectively. Polk also recorded one service ace and 11 digs, while Staples added ten digs for the Bearcats.

Madie Eagler recorded a game-high 24 assists in the loss as well.

It was all Grove City from the jump as SVC never led in the match. In the opening set, the Wolverines scored the first two points before opening up to an 11-5 lead. Grove City increased their lead to 19-9 before the Bearcats scored three straight points on two kills by Staples, mixed between an attack error by the Wolverines as Saint Vincent cut the lead to 19-12.

The Wolverines scored six of the final eight to take the opening set (25-14), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

Grove City scored the first two points of the second set too and later opened up to a 17-8 lead. The Bearcats cut into the lead at 19-12 after another kill from Staples but once again the Wolverines closed out the set on a 6-2 run to win the second set, taking a 2-0 lead.

Once again Grove City jumped out to an early lead in the third set (5-0) and never looked back. The Wolverines stayed on the attack doubling their lead at 21-11. The Bearcats had one last fight int hem scoring four in a row on two attack errors by Grove City, a service ace from Polk and kill by Staples cut the Wolverines lead to 21-15.

Grove City went on to score four of the final five to win the set (25-16) to clinch the sweep over Saint Vincent.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, October 21 when they play host to Waynesburg in the Robert S. Carey Center on senior day. Senior day festivities will take place prior to the 2 p.m. start on Saturday.
