LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 21)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 victory over Waynesburg on Senior Day.
Prior to Saturday afternoon's match, the Bearcats honored their three seniors,
Luciana Polk,
Lauren Turkovich, and
Nicolena Yanosick.

The Bearcats won the opening set 25-16, lost the second set 25-21 and won the final two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-20.

Kaelyn Staples and Polk came up big in the win for the Bearcats. Staples led the way with a game-high 14 kills and seven service aces, while Polk added 13 kills and 19 digs.
Madie Eagler recorded a game-high 40 assists and
Stacie Ramos recorded 15 digs.

Yanosick also added 12 kills and
Alexis DiFuccia tallied seven kills, while
Lauren Fox totaled three blocks for the Bearcats.

In the opening set, Waynesburg got out to a hot start with an early 7-3 lead. The Bearcats slightly cut into the lead over the next few points as Saint Vincent still trailed at 14-11. That's when the Bearcats went on a big run, scoring the next eight points. Five of those eight points came on aces by Staples to give SVC a 19-14 lead.

The Yellow Jackets cut the lead a bit at 20-16 but the Bearcats closed the set out with five straight points on two kills by Polk, a kill by Fox, and an attack error by Waynesburg as SVC took the opening set (25-16), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

SVC took the first advantage of the second set, scoring the first four points on kills by Fox, Eagler, and Staples, as well as an attack error by the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg stormed back to take an 11-8 lead and followed increased their lead to 17-11 and then 22-12.

Saint Vincent attempted a late comeback in the set but the Yellow Jackets hung on to win the set (25-21), tying the match at 1-1.

It was back-and-forth in the third set as both teams traded the first several points with the set tied at 11-11. SVC scored the next three points on a kill by Staples, ace by Eagler, and attack error by the Yellow Jackets, taking a 14-11 lead. The Bearcats then went on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to eight at 21-13 and never looked back.

After a Waynesburg point SVC scored the final four with two kills from Polk and a kill from Fox mixed between an error by Waynesburg as the Bearcats won the set (25-14), taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

The teams one again traded back-and-forth in the fourth set with Waynesburg holding a slight 13-12 lead in the set. The Bearcats once again went on a big run, this one a 7-0 run, three of which came on kills from Polk and Fox as Saint Vincent took a 19-13 lead.

The Bearcats and Yellow Jackets played even over the final points as SVC pulled out the win in the fourth set (25-20), clinching the 3-1 win.

As a team SVC compiled a strong .204 hitting percentage, picking up 49 kills, 12 service aces, five blocks, 45 assists, and 86 digs in the win.

The Bearcats return to action with a trip to Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday, October 25. The PAC match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
