Women's Volleyball Falls at Home to Bethany

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 28)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball fell by a score of 3-0 to Bethany on Saturday afternoon in the Robert S. Carey Center.
 
The Bearcats fell by set scores of 28-26, 26-24, and 25-21.
 
Luciana Polk and Kaelyn Staples both tallied double-digit kills for the Bearcats with 13 and ten respectively. Polk also added 15 digs for the Bearcats. Lauren Fox added six kills and three blocks for SVC and Madie Eagler recorded 28 assists for Saint Vincent.
 
Stacie Ramos led the way for SVC with 21 digs and Nicolena Yanosick recorded 14 digs for the Bearcats.
 
The Bearcats led for the majority of the opening set, holding a lead at 8-4 and then later in the set after six straight points, they led 19-13. Bethany climbed back in it, scoring eight of the next nine points to take a 21-20 lead in the set.
 
Saint Vincent answered with three straight on a kill from Polk, error by the Bison, and service ace by Ramos to regain the lead at 23-21. Bethany tied it back up at 23 all and the match remained tied at 25-25. After a kill by Staples gave SVC a 26-25 lead, Bethany scored the next three points to win the opening set (28-26), taking a 1-0 lead.
 
In the second set, it was much of the same story as SVC led for the majority of the set. The Bearcats opened up to an 11-7 lead and increased their lead to 17-12 in the middle portions of the set. The Bison went on a quick 6-0 run to take an 18-17 lead in the set but SVC wouldn't go down without a fight.
 
The Bearcats regained the lead at 21-20 but Bethany tied it back up at 23-23. The Bison scored three of the final four points to win the set (26-24), increasing their lead in the match to 2-0.
 
Bethany closed it out in the third set. Early on in the set the teams battled back-and-forth as the set was tied 11-11 but then the Bison went on a big run. Bethany used an 8-4 run to take a 19-15 lead but once again the Bearcats battled back.
 
SVC scored the next five points on four errors by the Bison and an ace from Emma Harclerode gave SVC the lead back at 20-19. The Bison closed it out scoring six of the final seven to give them the set win (25-21), clinching the sweep.
 
The Bearcats will enjoy a week off before concluding their regular season next Saturday, November 4 when they travel to Westminster. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pa.
