GROVE CITY, Pa. (Feb. 17)- The Saint Vincent men's swimming team competed in day three of the PAC Championship Meet at Grove City.
After day three, the Bearcats currently sit in third place with 442 total points. Grove City is a top the standings with 684 points, followed by Westminster who sits in second place with 485 points. Rounding out the top five is Allegheny (328 points) and Washington and Jefferson (161 points).
In the first preliminary event of the day, the men's 400-yard IM, the Bearcat men saw all four participants advance to the championship event.
Chris Bush and
Nicholas Jackman finished in the top-eight to advance to the championship race, while
Jacob Bacasa and
James Clark placed 11
th and 14
th, respectively, to qualify for the consolation championship.
In the championship of the 400-yard IM, Jackman finished in fifth place and Bush finished in sixth place. Jackman swam a time of 4:21.17 and Bush swam a time of 4:23.70. In the consolation final, Bacasa finished in 11
th place overall and Clark finished in 14
th.
The second preliminary event of the morning was the men's 100-yard butterfly, where the Bearcats sent four swimmers to the championship round.
Colin Spehar and
Noah Schollaert placed in the top-eight to compete in the championship event. Schollaert won a swim-off against Stephen Adametz of Westminster, swimming a lifetime best in the swim-off.
Hayden Klein and
Anton Seifert placed tenth and 14
th respectively to qualify for the consolation championship.
In the finals of the 100-yard butterfly, Spehar once again finished in seventh place, with Schollaert finishing just behind him in eighth place. Spehar swam a time of 54.30, while Shcollaert swam a time of 54.41 in the event. In the consolation finals, Klein finished in 11
th place and Seifert finished in 14
th place.
In the 200-yard freestyle event, Saint Vincent sent both participants in the event to the championship round.
Kris Smith and
Alex Leskovansky placed third and fourth respectively in the preliminary round to advance to the championship round in the night.
Smith finished in second place in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle event, swimming a time of 1:45.60. Leskovansky finished in fifth place with a time of 1:48.65 for the Bearcats.
The fourth preliminary event of the morning, the 100-yard breaststroke, two SVC swimmers advanced to the championship round.
Chris Bush placed in the top-eight to advance to the championship event, while
Robert Harrington placed in 14
th to advance to the consolation championship.
Bush improved his eighth-place finish in the preliminary round, finishing in fifth place in the finals, swimming a time of 1:00.17. In the consolation finals, Harrington swam a time of 1:05.27 to finish in 14
th place.
In the 100-yard backstroke event, the Bearcats sent two men to the finals in the evening. Both
Jacob Dzurica and
Anton Seifert placed in the top-eight to advance to the championship round in the nighttime.
In the finals of the 100-yard backstroke event, Dzurica won the Bearcats their first individual PAC Championship of the 2023 season. Dzurica swam a time of 51.23 in the event to bring home first place for Saint Vincent.
The Bearcats will take part in the final day of the PAC Championship Meet tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 at Grove City College's Longnecker Competition Pool. The preliminary round for tomorrow's events will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the championship round at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening.
