GROVE CITY, Pa. (Feb. 18)- The Saint Vincent men's swimming team ended the PAC Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing in third place in the Presidents Athletic Conference after the four-day meet.
The Bearcats totaled 613 points over the four-day event, finishing behind the PAC Champion Grove City (980 points) and Westminster (748 points) who finished in second place. Finishing behind the Bearcats was Allegheny (467 points) in fourth place, Washington and Jefferson (251 points) in fifth place, Bethany (126 points) in sixth, and Chatham (39 points) in seventh place.
In the first preliminary event of the day,
Jacob Dzurica,
Anton Seifert, and
Aidan Gilson all qualified for the finals in the 200-yard backstroke. Dzurica, fresh off of his PAC Championship in the 100-yard backstroke just 24-hours ago placed in second in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals in the event. Seifert finished in ninth place and Gilson finished in 12
th to qualify for the consolation finals in the nighttime.
In the finals of the 200-yard backstroke, Dzurica finished in second place just behind Will Sterrett of Grove City, who won the PAC Championship in the event. Dzurica swam a time of 1:56.59 in the finals in route to his second-place finish. In the consolation portion of the finals, Seifert finished in ninth place and Gilson placed in 12
th.
The second preliminary event of the morning was the men's 100-yard freestyle.
Kris Smith and
Alex Leskovansky qualified for the finals for SVC, with Smith placing in sixth and Leskovansky placed in seventh in the preliminary round.
In the finals of the event Smith finished in sixth place, swimming a time of 48.19. Leskovansky finished just behind Smith, finishing in eighth place with a time of 48.55 for the Bearcats.
In the men's 200-yard breaststroke
Chris Bush was the lone finals qualifier for Saint Vincent. Bush placed in fourth in the preliminary round swimming a time of 2:12.72 to qualify for the finals.
Bush once again finished in fourth place in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke. Bush swam a time of 2:13.02 in the event.
Colin Spehar,
Hayden Klein,
Noah Schollaert, and
Robert Harrington all placed in the top-16 in the prelims of the 200-yard butterfly to qualify for the finals. Spehar placed in fourth, while Klein and Schollaert rounded out the top-eight in seventh and eighth to qualify for the championship. Harrington placed in 12
th to qualify for the consolation championship.
In the finals Schollaert placed in fifth, swimming a time of 2:08.00. Harrington finished right behind Schollaert in the event, placing in seventh with a time of 2:08.82.
In the finals of the men's 1650-yard freestyle event,
Nicholas Jackman brought home his first career PAC Championship for Saint Vincent. Jackman swam a time of 16:57.81, the third-fastest time in program history to win the event for SVC.
Jacob Bacasa finished in sixth place in the event, swimming a time of 17:13.32 in the finals.
James Clark finished in tenth place with a time of 18:39.99.
In the final event of the 2023 PAC Swimming Championships, the quartet of Schollaert, Jackman, Harrington, and Seifert placed fourth for Saint Vincent. The four swimmers swam a time of 3:19.32 in the finals.
During the post meet awards ceremony
Anton Seifert was named to the Presidents Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Team as well.
