PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Mar. 11)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team earned a three-set sweep against Carlow in a non-conference matchup. The win for the Bearcats is their second win of the season against the Celtics.

The Bearcats completed the sweep, winning the first set 25-17, the second set 29-27, and the third set 27-25.

Matthew Minkin led the way for Saint Vincent with a game-high 15 kills, while also recording two assists.
Zach Wyant recored a game high as well with 35 assists in the win.
Zebadiah Wyant added eight kills and four digs and
Shawn McSwiggen recorded seven kills for the Bearcats.

Joshua Canty and
Matthew Klasnic led the way for the Bearcats in the digs category with each recording five digs.
Zachary Mumpower recorded a team high three blocks in the win for SVC as well.

It was back and forth early on in the first set as the Bearcats and Celtics were tied 2-2. After a point from Carlow gave them a 3-2 lead, the Bearcats answered, scoring four straight points on kills by McSwiggen and Zeb Wyant, mixed between an attack error by the Celtics, and a service ace by McSwiggen giving the Bearcats a 6-3 lead.

Saint Vincent and Carlow traded the next few points as the Bearcats had increased their lead by one at 12-8. SVC once again scored four straight and six of the next eight points to increase their lead to 18-9. In those six-points Zeb Wyant recorded two kills and
Michael Pollak recorded a service ace for SVC.

The closest Carlow would get the rest of the set was six points at 22-16 but the Bearcats scored three of the final four points on back-to-back kills by McSwiggen, followed by a service error by the Celtics, giving the Bearcats the first set win (25-17), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

It was once again back-and-forth early on in the second set. The Bearcats and Celtics traded the first 12 points of the set as the set was tied 6-6. Carlow then went on a quick 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead in the set, but SVC answered.

The Bearcats scored the next four points on a service ace by Pollak, a kill from Mumpower, mixed between to errors by the Celtics as Saint Vincent tied the set up at 11-11. The Bearcats continued on the attack, scoring three of the next four points on a service ace by McSwiggen, kill by Zeb Wyant, and an attack error by Carlow as the Bearcats took the lead at 15-13.

Carlow calmed the Bearcats run, tying the set up at 15-15 and regaining the lead at 17-16. Once again though Saint Vincent answered with another 4-0 run. Two straight kills by Minkin, followed by a kill from McSwiggen and attack error by the Celtics gave Saint Vincent a 20-17 lead in the set.

Carlow answered right back tying the set up at 22-22, 24-24, and 26-26. After a service error by SVC gave the Celtics the lead at 27-26, Saint Vincent scored the next two points on attack errors by Carlow, giving the Bearcats the set win (29-27) and a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, it was all Bearcats early on. Saint Vincent held leads at 6-3, 11-6, and 16-11 destined to sweep the Celtics. Carlow started to chip away cutting the SVC lead to 20-16 and scoring four straight points to tie the set up at 20-20, 21-21.

The Celtics had set point at 24-23 but SVC scored two straight on a kill by Mumpower and attack error by Carlow as Saint Vincent led 25-24. After Carlow tied the set at 25-25 on a service error by SVC, the Bearcats scored the final two points of the set. Back-to-back errors by the Celtics gave the Bearcats the set win (27-25), winning the match 3-0.

Saint Vincent led the Celtics in almost every major category. The Bearcats had 39 kills compared to 34 from Carlow. SVC also recorded seven blocks, 39 assists, and 23 digs in the three-set win. The Bearcats hit .329 compared to just a .116 hitting percentage by Carlow.

Saint Vincent returns to AMCC play in their next contest as they travel to Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday, March 15. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Penn State-Altoona.
