NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Mar. 15)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team scored their first win of the season in a strong offensive performance as the Bearcats came away with a 19-13 win over Muskingum.
 
Seven different Bearcats found the back of the net in route their first win of the 2023 season.
 
Bridget Doyle led the way for the Saint Vincent (1-1) recording 11 points, including four goals and seven assists. Doyle notched her 100th career point in the game as well. Kaylee Bandow scored six goals for SVC, while also picking up three ground balls. Freshman, Carolina Walters tallied six points as well, with three goals and three assists.
 
Maggie Edwards added two goals, while also scooping up three ground balls and Rachel Thatcher totaled three points with two goals and one assist. Caroline Mullineaux and Hannah-Marie Starner each scored one goal in the win for SVC as well. Bailey Nicely picked up the win in net for SVC, making seven saves for the Bearcats.
 
It was a high scoring first quarter as the Bearcats and Muskies combined for seven goals in the opening quarter. Just over three minutes into the quarter, Doyle scored the first goal of the game to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
 
Four minutes later Walters scored her first of two goals in the opening quarter as she scored on an assist from Doyle to give Saint Vincent a 2-0 lead in the quarter. The Bearcats continued on the attack as Doyle scored her second goal of the quarter just over one minute later to increase the SVC lead to 3-0.
 
SVC wasn't done yet as Walters then scored her second goal of the first quarter on an assist by Thatcher to give Saint Vincent a 4-0 lead with 4:15 remaining in the quarter. The Muskies netted two quick goals over the next two minutes of play to cut into the SVC lead at 4-2, but Edwards scored on an assist from Doyle as the Bearcats went into the second quarter with a 5-2 lead.
 
The high-powered offensive output continued for Saint Vincent in the second quarter. Muskingum scored the first goal of the quarter to cut the SVC lead to 5-3 just over two minutes into the quarter. The Bearcats answered as Thatcher scored her first goal of the game to move the SVC lead back to three at 6-3 but Muskingum answered about 50-seconds later to make the score 6-4.
 
Starner shifted the Saint Vincent lead back up to three as she scored on an assist from Walters as the Bearcats led 7-4. Once again though, Muskingum answered less than one minute later as they scored to cut the Saint Vincent lead to 7-5 with 8:38 remaining in the half.
 
From that point on it was all SVC, as the Bearcats outscored the Muskies 4-0 over the remaining eight minutes of the half. First, Edwards scored on another assist from Doyle to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 8-5.
 
Bandow then scored a pair of goals over the next five minutes to increase the Bearcats lead to 10-5. Saint Vincent wasn't finished yet as Thatcher scored her second goal of the game with 25 seconds left as Saint Vincent led 11-5 going into the half.
 
It was much tighter in the third quarter, but the Bearcats still were in control. Muskingum scored the first two goals of the quarter to cut the Saint Vincent lead to four at 11-7 with 12:33 remaining in the quarter.
 
The Bearcats scored the next three goals in the next three minutes of play. Mullineaux scored her lone goal of the game on another assist from Walters, increasing the SVC lead to 12-7. Bandow then scored her third goal of the game on an assist from
 
Doyle pushing the score to 13-7. Doyle followed Bandow's goal with a goal of her own to move the SVC lead to 14-7 with just under ten minutes remaining in the quarter. Just over one minute later the Muskies ended the SVC run as they cut the lead to 14-8 but Saint Vincent answered once again.
 
Bandow scored her fourth goal of the game and second of the quarter as Saint Vincent held a 15-8 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter Muskingum outscored the Bearcats 5-4 but it was too little too late for the Muskies. Bandow scored twice in the fourth quarter both coming on assists from Doyle. Doyle and Walters scored the other two goals in the final quarter to seal the 19-13 win for SVC.
 
Saint Vincent recorded 28 of their 31 shots on goal. The Bearcats won 20 draw controls compared to 16 from the Muskies. SVC also picked up 21 ground balls compared to 18 from Muskingum. Saint Vincent also was a strong 2-3 in free position shots.
 
The Bearcats return to action this weekend with a pair of home games. On Saturday, March 18 Saint Vincent plays host to Lancaster Bible College, with a 3 p.m. scheduled start. SVC will then play host to Wilson College on Sunday, March 19, also a scheduled 3 p.m. start at UPMC Field in Latrobe.
