GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 18) – The Saint Vincent women's tennis team earned a 7-0 road win over NAIA foe Carlow University in Saturday morning action at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The victory moves the Bearcat to 8-9 on the season.
Playing by NAIA rules, Saint Vincent earned the one doubles point up for grabs after sweeping the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot,
Carolina Walters and
Angela Popovich rolled to a 6-0 win, before
Julia Runk and
Emily Pierce teamed up for a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position. The Bearcats then picked up a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles.
Walters earned a quick win to open up singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot, before Popovich gave SVC another straight-set win, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 2 position.
Lydia Lieb won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and
Abby Donnelly 6-1. 6-0, at No. 5 to pus SVC's match lead to 5-0.
The match of the morning featured
Bella Baumgardner at No. 4 singles. After dropping a tight first set, 7-5, she promptly evened it up with a 6-0 win in the second set. She then completed the comeback by taking the tiebreaking third set by a 10-6 score.
