Bearcats edged in non-conference tilt

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 10) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team was edged 5-4 in non-conference action at Juniata College.

The tandem of Jack Citrone and Evan Ray earned Saint Vincent's (5-5) first win of the day with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles position, but Juniata (5-5) took the other two doubles contests, with J.T. Gockel and Sam Butler falling by an 8-2 score in the No. 1 spot and Brian Lee and Kyle Murray dropping a tight, 8-6 decision at the No. 3 spot.

After Juniata pulled out wins at No.1 and No. 2 singles, the Bearcats evened the match at 4-4, with Citrone claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3, Ray winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 and Murray 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.

The Eagles, however, would pick up the fifth and deciding win in a marathon match at No. 6. Gockel won the opening set 6-2, before falling in the second set by an identical score. He would then fall just short in the tiebreaker, dropping a 10-7 decision.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, April 13, when they return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Waynesburg University.
