Men's volleyball concludes season with loss in AMCC Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. (Apr. 14)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team concluded their season with a 3-0 loss to Penn State-Behrend in the AMCC semifinals.

The Bearcats lost the first set 25-19, lost a tight second set, 25-23, and fell in the third set 25-19 as well.

Shawn McSwiggen led the way for the Bearcats with a team-high 11 kills and three blocks. Zebadiah Wyant finished the match with ten kills and two blocks as well.

Matthew Minkin recorded a team-high 10 digs, while also picking up eight kills in the loss for the Bearcats. Zach Wyant led the Bearcats with 25 assists in the semifinal loss.

The Bearcats got off to a hot start in the semifinal matchup, scoring two of the first three points on a kill by Zeb Wyant and an attack error by the Lions gave SVC a 2-1 lead. The Lions then went on an 8-2 run to take a 9-4 lead in the first set.

The Bearcats started to climb back into the set in the middle portions as they went on a 6-4 run to cut the Behrend lead to 13-10. The Lions answered once again as three points would be the closest Saint Vincent would get the rest of the set as Behrend scored three of the final five points to win the first set (25-19), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, it was back-and-forth early on as Behrend held a slight 6-5 lead over the Bearcats. The Lions scored four of the next five points to increase their lead to 11-6 in the middle of the set and further increased their lead to 18-11.

Saint Vincent wouldn't go away quietly as the Bearcats went on an 11-4 run to cut the Lions lead to one at 23-22 after a kill by McSwiggen. The lions scored two of the final three points though to win the second set (25-23), increasing their lead in the match to 2-0.

The Bearcats struggled early in the third set as Behrend scored the first four points of the set to take a 4-0 lead. Over the next several points the Lions increased their lead to nine at 15-6 and then 18-9. Saint Vincent would cut the lead to seven but that is the closest they would get as the Lions won the set (25-19), sweeping Saint Vincent to advance to the AMCC Championship match.

The Bearcats conclude their season with a program record of 11 wins and eight wins in the AMCC. The Bearcats also won their first ever AMCC Tournament match this season as well.
