MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 27) - The Saint Vincent men's and women's track and field teams combined for four top-five finishes on the opening day of the 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at West Virginia University's Mylan Park.
On the men's side, Saint Vincent College junior
Tim Patterson repeated as the conference champion in the 10,000-meter run, and was one of three Bearcat runners to place in the top five of the event, while
Kristen Prince continued her stellar rookie campaign with a top-five finish in the women's 10K.
Patterson broke the tape in 32:49.71 to earn a two-second victory, while it marked a new personal best in the event and was 30 seconds faster than his winning time from a season ago.
Sophomore Ethan
Wymer placed third in the 10K, posting a time of 33:06.31, while rookie Brady
Sundin completed the race's top-five with a time of 33:13.59.
Prince covered the 10-kilometer distance in a time of 38:44.61, besting her previous personal record in the event by 70 seconds.
All four of the Bearcat men's sprinters set new personal records in the prelims of the 100-meter dash, with
Jorden Clay clocking in at 11.72 seconds,
Evan Suraci 11.81 seconds, Ben Tantalo at 12.14 seconds and
Jaden Groome 12.30 seconds.
In the women's 100 prelims,
Lucia Johnson took nearly a quarter-second off of her previous personal best, finishing in 14.23 seconds, while
Alicia Boretti shaved four-tenths off of her PR with a time of 15.24 seconds.
Sydney Andrews paced the SVC throwers on day one, besting her previous PR in the javelin by more than a meter with a throw of 16.42 meters (53' 10").
The second and final day of the 2023 PAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will get underway on Friday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Mylan Park.
