MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 28) – The Saint Vincent College women's track and field team closed out the 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a number of strong performances on the meet's second and final day.
The Bearcats' top event of the Championships was Friday/s 5,000-meter run, with two runners reaching the podium. Less than 24 hours removed from a fifth-place finish in Thursday's 10,000-meter run, freshman Kristen Prince paced SVC in the 5K with a time of 19:08.70 to place sixth in the 21-runner field, one spot ahead of teammate Lauren Brennan, who scored with a time of 19:13.95.
Saint Vincent saw three runners place in the top half of the 30-runner field in the 1,500-meter run. Freshman Lily Murphy led the way with a career-best time of 5:02.19 to place ninth, while fellow rookie Grace Scoville ran a personal-best 5:22.34 to place 13th and a third freshman, Cassy Lanza, running 5:23.28 to take 15th.
Murphy and Lanza would then go on to lead the Bearcat in the 800-meter run, with the former turning in a time of 2:34.22 to place 12th and the latter 2:38.25 to take 17th in the 34-runner field.
Lucia Johnson led the SVC sprint contingent, turning in a personal-best time of 29.23 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while teammate Alicia Boretti posted a time of 31.21 seconds, a 1.5-second personal best.
Sydney Andrews threw a career-best 16.42 meters (53' 10") to lead SVC in the javelin, just ahead of teammate Kharisma Zylka, who threw 16.35 meters (53' 7"), while Mia Moore posted SVC's best performance in both the discus (21.85 meters/71' 8") and the shot put (7.94m / 26' 0.75"), with Zylka throwing 19.64 meters (64' 5") in the disc and 7.91 meters (25' 11.5") in the shot.
The Bearcats travel back to Morgantown when they return to action on Saturday, May 6, taking part in the West Virginia University Last Chance.
