LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 22) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 7-2 victory over visiting Geneva College on the SVC Courts.
The Bearcats opened the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. The No. 3 doubles tandem of
Lydia Lieb and
Abby Donnelly was first off the court with an 8-0 win, before the second doubles team of
Marisa Hooper and
Emily Pierce earned an 8-4 victory. At the No. 1 doubles spot,
Carolina Walters and
Rachel Zgurich suffered a tight 8-6 defeat.
Saint Vincent would keep rolling in singles play, winning five of the six matches.Â
Donnelly put the Bearcats up 3-1 on the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, before Walters coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot. Hooper then clinched the match win for the Bearcats with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
Lieb picked up SVC's sixth win of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles, and Pierce closed it out with a 6-0, 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot.
The Bearcats will now have the weekend off before returning to PAC play with a 4 p.m. match on Monday, Sept. 25, at Waynesburg University.Â
