WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 27)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team defeated Waynesburg 3-1 for the Bearcats second straight win.

Saint Vincent won the opening set 25-22 and fell in the second set, 25-23 as the match was tied 1-1. The Bearcats answered back winning the final two sets commandingly by scores of 25-14 and 25-17 to score the road win.

Luciana Polk and
Kaelyn Staples led the way for Saint Vincent as Polk recorded a game-high 16 kills, while Staples added 14 kills for SVC. Polk also recorded a team-high 24 digs in the win as well.

Madie Eagler and
Nicolena Yanosick were both strong performers for the Bearcats as well as Eagler tallied a game-high 38 assists and Yanosick recorded double-digit digs with 18 on the night.
Lauren Fox added eight kills and
Stacie Ramos recorded 21 digs for the Bearcats as well. Ramos, Staples, and
Alexis DiFuccia all had two service aces in the win.

It was a back-and-forth first set early on. The teams traded the first several points as the opening set was tied 16-16. After the Bearcats took the lead at 17-16 on a kill by Fox, Waynesburg took the first advantage as they went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-17 lead.

SVC stormed back scoring the next eight points to win the set (25-22), taking a 1-0 lead. During the 8-0 run, Polk recorded three kills and Eagler recorded a kill as well and the Bearcats capitalized on four errors by the Yellow Jackets.

In the second set, it was all Bearcats early on, as Saint Vincent scored eight of the first nine points. The Bearcats continued on the attack as they later increased their lead to eight at 15-7 but Waynesburg wouldn't go away. The Yellow Jackets stormed back with a 15-7 run to tie the set up at 22-22.

After splitting the next two points, Waynesburg scored the final two points to win the second set (25-23), tying the match up at 1-1.

Saint Vincent opened the third set similar to the second set as the Bearcats scored the first six points on kills from Polk and DiFuccia and four errors by the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg started to claw their way back into the set as they cut the SVC lead to three at 16-13 but then Saint Vincent took over.

SVC scored nine of the final ten points, including five in a row to win the third set (25-14), taking a 2-1 lead. During the Bearcats 9-1 run to close the set out, they scored points on three kills once again from Polk, two service aces from Ramos, and a few errors by Waynesburg.

The Saint Vincent momentum continued into the fourth set as well. The Bearcats opened up to an 11-5 lead and increased that lead to 14-6 by the middle portion of the set. After SVC increased their lead to ten at 20-10, the Yellow Jackets attempted one final comeback chance.

Waynesburg cut the Saint Vincent lead to six at 23-17 but the Bearcats closed it out scoring the next two points to win the fourth set (25-17), winning the match 3-1. The final two points for SVC came on a kill from Eagler and error by Waynesburg.

The Bearcats led in almost every major statistical category over the course of the match. SVC had 51 kills compared to 41 from Waynesburg. Saint Vincent also recorded nine service aces and the Yellow Jackets had six. The Bearcats added 43 assists and 91 digs as a team as well.

Madisen Dayton led the way for Waynesburg with 12 kills. Kendall Ellsworth added 14 assists and Jordan Stein recorded a game-high 31 digs in the loss for the Yellow Jackets.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Bethany for their final non-conference matchup of the season when they take on the Bison. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. at Bethany.
