LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 30)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Carlow in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night.
 
The Bearcats won all three sets by scores of 25-18, 30-28, and 25-13.
 
Shawn McSwiggen and 
Matthew Minkin led the way with double-digit kills for the Bearcats. McSwiggen finished with 12 kills and Minkin recorded ten kills. 
Rocco Marino added eight kills for Saint Vincent as well.
 
Zach Wyant recorded 28 assists and 12 digs, while 
Matthew Klasnic tallied a team-high 16 digs. 
Zebadiah Wyant also added seven digs for the Bearcats as well. Off the bench, 
Josh Havrilla one kill an five assists for Saint Vincent.
 
It was back-and-forth early on in the first set as the team's traded points as the set was tied 9-9. Carlow scored the next two points as the Bearcats trailed 11-9, but then they went on a big run. Saint Vincent scored the next seven points, taking the lead at 16-11.
 
After a Carlow timeout, Saint Vincent continued on the attack as the Bearcats increased their lead to seven at 21-14. The teams played even over the next few points as SVC won the set (25-18), taking a 1-0 lead.
 
It was a marathon second set as it was once again early on it was tied 12-12. Carlow took the lead over the next few points at 15-12 and increased their lead to 23-20. The Bearcats climbed back into it with three straight points, two of which came on kills from Minkin and one from Marino to tie it up 23-23.
 
Over the next couple of points, the Celtics had set point three times and Saint Vincent had it twice, converting on the second attempt, taking advantage on two attack errors by Carlow as SVC won the set (30-28), taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
It was all Bearcats in the third set. Saint Vincent scored the first four points of the set and never looked back. The Bearcats opened their lead up to 12 at 18-6 and then 24-12. Saint Vincent closed the match out with a kill from 
Anthony Ditonto to win the set (25-13) and the match, 3-0.
 
Saint Vincent led every major statistical category. The Bearcats had 62 digs, 41 assists, and 45 kills over the course of the match.
 
The Bearcats return to action on Thursday, February 1, traveling to Chatham for a matchup against the Cougars. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
