Bearcats Fall on the Road at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 26)- The Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team was defeated 3-1 at Allegheny on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bearcats (10-11, 4-2 PAC) fell in the opening set 25-23, before winning the second set 25-16 to tie the match up. Allegheny (20-5, 6-0 PAC) went on to win the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-13.
 
Kaelyn Staples-Klasnic and Lauren Fox led the way for the Bearcats with nine kills each. Staples-Klasnic also added 17 digs as well as three service aces.
 
Vivian Poach added 26 assists, while Stacie Ramos totaled 23 digs and Poach added 17 of her own.
 
It was back-and-forth early on in the opening set as the set was tied 7-7 and remained tied at 20-20. The Gators scored the next two points to take a 22-20 lead and then scored three of the final six as Saint Vincent dropped the opening set (25-23) and Allegheny took a 1-0 lead.
 
Similar to the first set the teams traded points in the second set as the score was tied 11-11. That tied scored remained all squared up at 15-15 before the Bearcats closed out the set on a huge run.
 
Saint Vincent went on a 10-1 run which included two kills from Staples-Klasnic, a kill by Poach, and a kill from Meegan Williams as well to win the second set (25-16) to tie the match at 1-1.
 
The Gators controlled the next two sets to win the match. In the third set, Saint Vincent led 4-3, but Allegheny came back to tie it up at 4-4, before taking a 5-4 lead and they'd never lose that lead the rest of the set.
 
Allegheny went on to win the set (25-19) to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
It was similar in the fourth set as well. The Bearcats led 5-3, before Allegheny tied the match at 5-5 and took a 6-5 lead, once again never losing the lead in the set.
 
The Gators cruised to the 25-13 win in set four to win the match 3-1.
 
As a team, the Bearcats recorded a hitting percentage of .074, while the Gators had a .106 hitting percentage. Allegheny led the match in kills 53-34 as well as blocks 8-4. The Bearcats had 31 assists and 86 digs in the match too.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, October 30, playing host to Chatham in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
