ROANOKE, Va. (Nov. 16)- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team fell to Roanoke in the championship of the Roanoke Tip-off Tournament by a score of 101-57.
The Bearcats (2-1) fell behind at the half by a score of 49-28, before the Maroons (3-1) outscored SVC 52-29 in the second half as well to hand Saint Vincent their first loss of the season.
Dev Ostrowski and
Osyon Jones led the way for SVC, both scoring 11 points for Saint Vincent. Ostrowski added three steals and two rebounds as well.
Matthew Puodziukaitis added six points on 3-3 shooting from the field.
Saint Vincent shot 42% (21-50), including 7-17 (41.2%) from beyond the three-point arc over the course of the game. Roanoke on the other hand shot 34-50 (57%) from the field and 8-12 from beyond the three-point arc.
The Bearcats led 7-6 early in the first half, but the Maroons answered with 8-0 run to take a 14-7 lead and the Bearcats never regained the lead the rest of the game.
The Maroons lead hovered between 10-15 points for the rest of the half, before they increased it to 21 by the halftime break. It was much of the same story in the second half, as the Maroons hot shooting stymied the Bearcats the rest of the way as Saint Vincent fell for the first time this season.
Puodziukaitis and Ostrowski were both named to the All-Tournament team.
SVC returns to action on Wednesday, November 20 when they travel to Chatham to take on the Cougars in their PAC opener. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
