STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 2)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 PAC win on the road at Franciscan on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (12-11, 6-2 PAC) won the opening set 25-22, before falling in the second set 25-18 as the match was tied 1-1. Saint Vincent went on to defeat the Barons (13-9, 3-5 PAC) 27-25 and 25-22 in the third and fourth sets to win their second consecutive match.
Meegan Williams added yet another double-double for SVC as she totaled 11 kills and 15 digs.
Vivian Poach recorded a double-double as well with a match-high 45 assists, while she also added ten digs.Â
Kaelyn Staples-Klasnic and
Stacie Ramos both had solid performances as well, with Staples-Klasnic recorded a team-high 14 kills and Ramos with a match-high 36 digs.
Dakota Hershberger added 12 kills for SVC.
Lauren Fox and
Aubrey Siwula both totaled match high's as well as Fox totaled five blocks and Siwula recorded three service aces in the win for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats found themselves trailing 12-10 in the opening set, before they scored four points in a row on three attack errors by the Barons, followed by a service ace from Hershberger to put the Bearcats back up 14-12. After a Franciscan point, the Bearcats added two more points on back-to-back kills from Fox and Poach to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 16-13.
The Bearcats lead would hover between 2-3 points over the next few points, before Franciscan cut the lead to 23-22 late in the set. Saint Vincent scored the final two points in the set on an attack error by Franciscan and kill from Staples-Klasnic to win the set (25-22), giving SVC a 1-0 lead in the match.
Franciscan controlled the majority of the second set as the Barons never lost the lead in the set. Franciscan cruised to the win in set two (25-18), tying the match up at 1-1.
The Barons continued that momentum into the early to middle portions of the third set. Franciscan led 18-9 in the set, before the rest of the match flipped in the Bearcats favor. Saint Vincent went on a 14-5 run over the next 19 points to come the whole way back in the set to tie it at 23-23. Franciscan scored a point to take a 24-23 lead, but SVC scored two in a row on a kill from Williams and an attack error by the Barons to take a 25-24 lead.
After a Saint Vincent service error, the Bearcats capitalized on back-to-back Franciscan errors to come the whole way back from down nine points to win the set (27-25), taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
SVC carried that momentum into the fourth set as they scored the first five points of the set. Three of the five points came on kills from Poach, Hershberger, and Williams, as well as a service ace from Siwula as Saint Vincent led 5-0.
SVC quickly increased that lead to 12-3 with full control in the set. Franciscan then went on a 11-3 run to cut the Bearcats lead to 15-14. The teams traded points over the next few with Saint Vincent still holding a 22-21 lead. The Bearcats took command to win the match as they scored three of the final four points on kills from Staples-Klasnic and Poach mixed between an error from the Barons to win the fourth set (25-22) and the match 3-1.
The Bearcats led the Barons in service aces at a 6-4 clip, while they also led in digs 88-78 as well. Franciscan led the match in assists (54-47) and kills (57-51). Both teams recorded six blocks over the course of the match. Saint Vincent totaled a .175 hitting percentage, while Franciscan hit .170.
Saint Vincent will now return home for their final two PAC regular season matchups. In the first of the two matchups, they will host Geneva on Wednesday, November 6. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Robert S. Carey Center.
