LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 6)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Geneva on Wednesday night in the Robert S. Carey Center.
The Bearcats (13-11, 7-2 PAC) breezed to the three-set victory winning in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-20 over Geneva (9-19, 1-8 PAC).
Kaelyn Staples-Klasnic had a big performance for a Bearcat attack that hit an impressive .231 over the course of the match. Staples-Klasnic recorded 11 kills, while also adding 19 digs in the win.
Meegan Williams had a double-double as well with ten kills and 15 digs for the Bearcats.Â
Lauren Fox was strong too, hitting .500 with 11 kills and four blocks for SVC.
Vivian Poach totaled 37 assists in the win for Saint Vincent as well.
Saint Vincent started on the attack right away, scoring four of the first five points, two of which came on a service ace from
Aubrey Siwula and kill by Fox.
From that point on it continued to be all Saint Vincent. The Bearcats opened their lead to 15-11 and then 22-15 after three consecutive kills by Williams and then two from Fox.
SVC went up 24-17 in the set, before Geneva scored four consecutive points to cut the lead to 24-21. The Bearcats won the opening set (25-21) on a service error by the Golden Tornadoes to take a 1-0 lead in the set.
The Bearcats continued their attack into the second set as they scored four consecutive points to open the set up 4-0. However, Geneva battled back in the set to tie the set at 11-11 and then later took the lead over the Bearcats at 14-11. This time, Saint Vincent battled back cutting the lead to 19-18. SVC then scored the final seven points in a row to win the set (25-19). During the run
Dakota Hershberger recorded two kills, while Williams recorded a kill as well to put SVC up 2-0 in the match.
It was back-and-forth in the third set as the set was tied 10-10, before the GT's took a slight 11-10 advantage. The Bearcats went on a big run scoring nine of the next ten points to take a commanding 19-12 lead. Geneva once again climbed back into the match, cutting the lead to 21-19 late in the set. The Bearcats went on to score four of the final five points, ending the match with a kill from Fox and attack error by the GT's as SVC won the set (25-20), winning the match 3-0.
The Bearcats led kills 44-38, blocks 8-2, assists 42-38, and digs 86-81. Geneva had eight service aces in the match.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, November 9, playing host to Geneva in their PAC Regular Season finale on senior day. Prior to the match, the Bearcats will honor their 2024 senior class with the match starting at 4 p.m.
