CANTON, Ohio (Nov. 21)- The Saint Vincent men's and women's swim teams competed in the opening day of the three-day Malone Invitational in Canton.
The Bearcats competed in the prelims earlier in the day, before wrapping up the opening day with the finals events in the evening.
To open the finals, the Saint Vincent women's team earned a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Emma Martz,
Cecilia Hickin,
Sarah Alexander, and
Abby Leskovansky raced to the third place win for the Bearcats. The group swam a time of 1:40.39, over four seconds faster than their time of 1:44.91 in the prelims earlier in the day.
In the same 200-yard freestyle relay event, the Saint Vincent men's team picked up a fourth place finish. The team of
Robert Harrington,
Alex Leskovansky,
Liam Randolph, and
Jacob Dzurica raced to a team time of 1:27.22, four seconds quicker than their time of 1:31.37 in this morning's prelims.
In the individual events, Saint Vincent's top finish on both the men's and women's side came in the 50-yard freestyle. Leskovansky won the event for the Bearcat women, while Dzurica won it on the men's side of the event. Leskovansky swam a time of 24.06 to win it for the Bearcats, while Dzurica won the event in a time of 20.38 for the Bearcats.
In the 500-yard freestyle event, Alexander finished 14th in the 24 swimmer field. Alexander swam a time of 5:30.77, five second quicker than her time in the morning prelims.
Brook McDermott also swam a time of 5:37.11, five seconds quicker than her prelim time for the Bearcats. On the men's side, Harrington raced a time of 5:01.25 to finish 16th in the event for Saint Vincent.Â
In the 200-yard IM, Randolph swam a time of 2:00.39 to finish 13th for the Saint Vincent men in the event. For the Bearcats women's team,
Deanna Miller raced a time of 2:22.64 in the event.
The opening night concluded with the 400-medley relay. The women's team once again placed third, while the men placed fourth in the same event. The team of
Fallyn Zembiec, along with Miller, Martz, and Leskovansky raced to a time of 4:09.58, four seconds quicker than their time earlier in the day. Dzurica, Harrington, Randolph, and Leskovansky raced to the fourth place finish with a time of 3:32.67, seven seconds faster than their prelim time.
Both teams will return to action tomorrow, Friday, November 21 as they will take part in day two of the Malone Invitational. Prelims will get underway at 10 a.m., while the finals for the day will begin at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night.
