Women's basketball wins big at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Dec. 19)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned a 78-39 road Presidents Athletic Conference victory at Westminster on Thursday afternoon.
 
After leading by nine at the half, Saint Vincent (4-5, 4-2 PAC) outscored Westminster (1-8, 1-5 PAC) 48-18 in the second half to earn the 39-point road victory. 12 different Bearcat players scored at least two points in the win.
 
Emily Thompson led the way for Saint Vincent with a game-high 18 points, while she also grabbed six rebounds. Reese Gadsby and Brooke Evans both scored in double figures as well with Gadsby scoring 13 and Evans adding 11 points.
 
Makenna Maier grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while scoring six points, and Camdon Bashor added six points and nine rebounds for Saint Vincent as well. Jillian Mannarino added nine points for SVC coming off the bench.
 
The Bearcats got off to a quick start in the opening quarter. Saint Vincent used some hot shooting to hold an eight-point (10-2) lead at the first media timeout. Gadsby scored half of those first ten points for the Bearcats. Over the next four plus minutes of play, the Titans went on to outscore SVC 10-6, but the Bearcats still held a 16-12 lead at the quarters end.
 
Saint Vincent forced six Westminster turnovers in that opening quarter, while they also held Westminster to shoot just 31 percent in the quarter as well.
 
SVC's defense controlled the pace of play for the majority of the second quarter. The Bearcats limited Westminster to just nine points in the second quarter to take a nine-point (30-21) lead into the halftime break.
 
The Bearcats limited Westminster to shoot just 28% (9-32) in the opening half. Saint Vincent on the other hand shot just under 40% (13-33) in the first half. SVC also forced nine Westminster turnovers, scoring 14 of their 30 points off of those turnovers in the half.
 
Thompson scored 11 points, while grabbing five rebounds for Saint Vincent in the first half of play. Gadsby scored nine points, while Maier grabbed six rebounds in the half as well.
 
Just as it was in the first quarter, it was a quick start for the Bearcats out of the half. Over the first five minutes plus of the half Saint Vincent outscored Westminster 10-3 to take a 40-24 lead.
 
That Saint Vincent run continued over the remaining four minutes of the third quarter. The Bearcats went on to outscore Westminster 25-11 in the quarter, opening up their lead to 23 at 55-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
It was all Saint Vincent in the fourth quarter as well. The Bearcats once again limited the Titans to single digits in the quarter, allowing just seven points, while they scored 23 of their own to record the 39-point road PAC victory.
 
Overall, Saint Vincent shot an impressive 48% (35-73) from the field, while limiting Westminster to shoot just 26% (15-57) from the field in the win. The Bearcats scored 48 points in the paint and 20 points off of turnovers in the win as well.
 
The Bearcats will now take a short break for the Christmas holiday, before returning to action on Sunday, December 29 when they'll compete in the D3Hoops Classic in Las Vegas. The Bearcats will first take on SUNY Canton on the 29th with a 12:00 PM Pacific/3:00 PM Est. scheduled tip-off.
