Women's basketball falls to Redlands in Las Vegas finale

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Dec. 30)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team fell to Redlands by a final score of 68-57 on Monday afternoon in the Bearcats final game in Las Vegas.

Saint Vincent (5-6, 4-2 PAC) trailed by ten at the break, before Redlands (7-5, 2-1 SCIAC) slightly outscored the Bearcats 21-20 in a low scoring second half.

Reese Gadsby led the Bearcats with 13 points, while she also grabbed three rebounds. Camdon Bashor was the only other Saint Vincent player to score in double figures as she scored ten points and grabbed five rebounds. Emily Thompson and Makenna Maier both scored seven points, while Maier grabbed a team-high ten rebounds.

Coming off the bench, Brooke Evans scored four points and grabbed eight rebounds for SVC as well.

It was a high scoring opening quarter as Redlands shot an impressive 11-17 from the field in the quarter to quickly score 27 points. The Bearcats were held to just 16 points on 5-11 shooting in the quarter as well, but Redlands still held an 11-point lead at the quarters end.

In the second quarter, it was much more evenly played as the Bearcats slightly outscored Redlands 17-16 to cut the lead to ten points at the break. Saint Vincent cut the lead to 38-32 late in the second quarter before Redlands closed the half out on a 5-1 spurt to hold a 43-33 advantage at the half.

The third quarter was very similar to the second with SVC again outscoring Redlands by a one-point (15-14) margin to cut their lead to single digits at nine (57-48). 

It was a very low scoring fourth quarter as just 12 total points were scored between the two teams. Redlands outscored Saint Vincent 7-5 in the quarter to hand the Bearcats the double digit loss.

The Bearcats shot 36% (21-58) from the field, while Redlands shot 35% (24-69) over the course of the game on their end. Redlands shot an impressive 53% (9-17) from the three-point arc, while SVC shot just 3-11 (27%).

Saint Vincent will return home and Presidents Athletic Conference Play on Saturday, January 4 as they play host to Waynesburg. Tip-off against the Yellows Jackets is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
