EBENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 24) – The Saint Vincent College men's tennis team opened its 2024 spring campaign with a 9-0 win over Mount Aloysius at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
The victory moved SVC to 5-0 overall on the season, while it marks the 100th career combined victory for Bearcat taskmaster
Brian Niemiec, who now has 53 victories at the helm of the men's team, along with 47 as the SVC women's head coach.
Saint Vincent jumped out to a prompt 3-0 win after sweeping through doubles play. After winning by forfeit at the No. 3 spot, the pairing of
Brady Johnson and
Braden Yokopenic won by an 8-1 score at No.1, and
Kyle Murray and
J.T. Gockel picked up an 8-0 victory at No. 2.
The Bearcats then closed out the victory by winning all six singles matches. The Bearcats received 6-0, 6-0 victories by
Matthew Sadusky at No. 1 and
Josh Havrilla at No. 4.
Jack Citrone won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, while
August Lawrence claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, and
Brennen Novotney won by a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 5. William Hinkston earned a win by forfeit at No. 6 singles.
The Bearcats will now have a quick turnaround and will be back in the greater Altoona area on Sunday, Feb. 25, with a road match at Penn State-Altoona beginning at 1 p.m.
