FINAL STANDINGS
The Saint Vincent women's bowling team won all five matches en route to the tournament championship in the Unicorn Invitational, hosted by La Roche University in Pittsburgh.
SVC started slowly, falling behind Pitt-Bradford by 39 pins after game one of a five-game Baker, total pin team-game set. SVC bounced right back with a 39-pin win in the second game to tie the match. SVC took an 18-pin lead after three games, before winning game four by a score of 232-152, then cruised to a 103-pin victory, 848-751.
In the second match, SVC once again fell behind early, dropping the first game to La Roche by a 180-161 score, before bouncing back and winning the next four games. The final score was 820-732 in favor of the Bearcats.
Next was a matchup against Pitt-Greensburg, and SVC led from start to finish, winning 849-704.
The fourth game of the day saw SVC battle with Penn State-Behrend, and the match was close after three games, with SVC leading by just 32 pins. SVC won the fourth game, 172-160, taking a 44-pin lead into the final game. The Lions opened up a 20-pin lead early in the game, but SVC managed to keep the margin at 20, falling 182-162 but winning the match by a score of 833-809.
SVC closed the afternoon with its best set of the day, which included games of 231, 201 and 224, defeating Penn State-Altoona by a score of 991-701.
Saint Vincent won the tournament title with a 5-0 record, while Pitt-Bradford was second, at 4-1.
Individually, the Bearcats were led by
Monique Koehler with a 196.5 average on the day . She was followed by
Daphne Stuber (185.1),
Marissa Jones (178.2),
Sabine Strickland (177.8) and
Skyy Nicholls (171.7).
The Bearcats are now 62-11 on the season, and will return to action the weekend of March 9-10, in the Intercollegiate Team Championships. By finishing 25th in the nation in US Bowling Congress Collegiate points, SVC earned a berth in the ITC Sectional in Allen Park, Michigan.
