LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 22)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a doubleheader against Waynesburg University, falling in the first game, before winning in walk off fashion in game two.

The Bearcats (3-11, 1-1 PAC) fell 10-8 in game one, leaving the tying run at the plate as
Jacob Auld was robbed of a game-tying two-run homer to end the game. In game two the Bearcats scored two runs in the ninth, including a walk off fielders' choice by
Dalton Nicklow to win it 6-5 over the Yellow Jackets (9-7, 3-1 PAC).

GAME ONE- Waynesburg 10, Saint Vincent 8
The Bearcats trailed for the entirety of the game. Waynesburg opened up to a quick 3-0 lead and increased their lead to 8-3. Saint Vincent cut the lead to 8-7 but Waynesburg added two runs in the ninth to hand the Bearcats the 10-8 defeat.

Vincent Amatucci led the way for Saint Vincent, going 4-5 with three RBIs and a run scored in the opening game of the doubleheader.
L.J. Evans also had a solid game at the plate going 2-5 with two runs scored, while also walking once as well.

Dylan Schmude,
Billy Perroz, and
Mario Disso all tallied two hits to add to the SVC total.
Devin Bonine went 1-5 with a run scored and
Alex Hess added a hit as well for Saint Vincent.

Jeremy Kreuzwieser took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. He also struck out five and walked five as well.
Tyler Dancu pitched a scoreless third of an inning in relief as well.

Waynesburg quickly got off to a 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first inning. After shutting the Bearcats down, they added another run in the second to open up to a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning.

Saint Vincent started to climb back into the game with two third inning runs. Schmude doubled to right field, scoring Disso and then Amatucci followed with an RBI single to center field, scoring Schmude to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 3-2.

Waynesburg added a run in the fourth and the Bearcats did as well, in the bottom of the inning. Bonine singled in Evans after his lead off triple to cut the lead back to one run at 4-3. Waynesburg had a big fifth and sixth inning, scoring four more runs to open their lead up to 8-3.

SVC scored the four runs of the game, with those runs coming in the eighth and ninth innings. Amatucci hit an RBI-sac fly that scored Hess and Perroz followed with a deep two-run shot to dead center to cut the lead to 8-6.

In the eighth, Hess grounded out to second, and as the pinch runner,
J'Shawn Taylor was going to the third base, a Waynesburg overthrow allowed him to come around to score to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 8-7.

Waynesburg added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to lead 10-7 heading into the Bearcats final chance in the bottom of the ninth. Amatucci led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo shot to left to cut the lead to 10-8.

Perroz followed with a walk and with two outs, the pinch hitter, Auld stepped up to the plate. Auld launched a deep shot to centerfield, before Waynesburg centerfielder, Garret Comer robbed Auld of the potential game-tying two run homer to hand the Bearcats their first conference defeat.

Waynesburg won the game, scoring ten runs on 16 hits, while also committing two errors. The Bearcats on the other hand, scored eight runs on 14 hits, while also committing three errors.

GAME TWO- Saint Vincent 6, Waynesburg 5
The Bearcats held a 4-1 lead heading into the ninth inning. Waynesburg scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take a 5-4 lead. SVC answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs, including the walk-off fielders' choice by Nicklow to win it 6-5 for the Bearcats.

Saint Vincent was led by starting pitcher,
Sean McAleer, who tossed a strong eight innings, allowing just one run on nine hits. McAleer also struck out five and walked two batters as well. Dancu picked up the win in relief, pitching 0.2 innings, walking a batter and striking one out as well.

Amatucci again had a solid game at the plate, going 2-5 with one run scored and an RBI as well. Evans and
Derek Hald each added two hits for SVC to add to their total. Bonine, Nicklow, and Hess all recorded a hit a piece.

After a scoreless opening three innings for both teams, the Bearcats scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Amatucci scored on a wild pitch, giving Saint Vincent a 1-0 lead.

Waynesburg tied it up in the next half inning at one, but the tie didn't last long as Saint Vincent scored three in the sixth inning.

Bonine reached on a bunt single and an errant throw on the play allowed him to reach second, while both Evans and Nicklow came around to score to take give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead. Disso followed with an RBI-sac fly, scoring Bonine to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 4-1.

Both teams went scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings.

With Waynesburg down to their final two outs, the Yellow Jackets scored four runs, not only to tie the game but also take the lead at 5-4 as the Bearcats came to bat.

The Waynesburg lead didn't last long. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Amatucci doubled to left center to tie the game as Hess came around to score and Schmude, the potential winning run advanced to third.

After the Yellow Jackets intentionally walked Perroz, Nicklow came up, ripping a two-strike ground ball to second base. Schmude broke for the plate and the Waynesburg throw was wide of the bag, allowing Schmude to score the winning run safely, giving Saint Vincent their first PAC victory of the season.

The Bearcats scored their six runs on nine hits, while also committing two errors as well. Waynesburg on the other hand scored their five runs on 12 hits, committing two errors as well.

Saint Vincent will take Saturday off, before heading to Hiram for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 24. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Hiram, Ohio.
