Baseball Swept in Doublheader at Hiram

BEREA, Ohio (Mar. 24)- The Saint Vincent baseball team was swept by Hiram in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Bearcats (3-13) were defeated by the Terriers (9-5) 12-1 in game one and 6-3 in the finale of the doubleheader.
 
GAME ONE- Hiram 12, Saint Vincent 1
Hiram controlled the entirety of the opening game of the doubleheader. The Terriers quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Bearcats after the first two innings.
 
Saint Vincent got on the board in the fourth, but Hiram scored three in the bottom of the fourth and six in the fifth to hand SVC the 12-1 defeat.
 
Dalton Nicklow went 2-3 in the loss for the Bearcats, while Billy Perroz and Alex Hess each tallied a hit as well. Derek Hald recorded the lone RBI in the loss for SVC and J'Shawn Taylor, Jimmy Davis, and T.J. Bucy all tallied one hit apiece.
 
Nate Davis took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits, while walking four batters and striking out two.
 
Hiram took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first and increased that 1-0 lead to 3-0 by the end of the second inning. Hald got the Bearcats on the board in the fourth on an RBI groundout, scoring Perroz to cut the lead to 3-1.
 
It was all Terriers from that point on as Hiram scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead and opened the game up in the fifth with six more runs as they led 12-1 and that's what the final would end up.
 
The Bearcats scored their one run on seven hits, while also committing an error. Hiram on the other hand scored 12 runs on 11 hits, committing one error as well.
 
GAME TWO- Hiram 6, Saint Vincent 3
The Bearcats fell in a much closer game in the finale of the doubleheader. Saint Vincent scored to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Hiram tied it in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Saint Vincent added another run in the second to take the lead back, but after a couple scoreless innings, Hiram scored runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Bearcats tied it in the sixth, but three Hiram runs in the bottom of the sixth was the difference in the game as Hiram won 6-3.
 
Nicklow added three more hits in game two, going 3-3 with one run scored. Perroz went 203 with an RBI as well. Lane Golkosky along with J'Shawn Taylor each added one hit apiece in the loss.
 
SVC starting pitcher Garrett Knapp earned the no-decision on the mound. Knapp pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out two batters. Jacob Hess took the loss in relief, pitching one inning, giving up three runs on two hits, striking out one and walking one batter as well.
 
Perroz got Saint Vincent off to a good start with an RBI-single to right field, scoring Golkosky to give SVC a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Terriers tied it at one apiece after an RBI-single of their own in the bottom of the inning.
 
The Bearcats scored again in the top of the second as Reid Rachwal grounded out to second, driving in Niko Buffone, giving Saint Vincent a 2-1 advantage.
 
After a scoreless third inning, the Terriers tied the game in the fourth and added another one in the fifth, shutting out the Bearcats in both innings as Saint Vincent found themselves trailing, 3-2.
 
In the sixth, an RBI-single by Taylor which scored Jacob Auld tied the game at 3-3. Hiram answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs and set the Bearcats down in order in the seventh to defeat the Bearcats for the second straight game.
 
Saint Vincent scored their three runs on seven hits, while committing one error. The Terriers on the other hand scored their six runs on ten hits, also committing an error.
 
Saint Vincent returns back to PAC play on Wednesday, March 27, traveling to Washington and Jefferson for a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Washington, PA.
