GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 24) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team claimed the Battle of Route 30, defeating Pitt-Greensburg 8-1 at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The non-conference victory moves the Bearcats' record to 7-3 on the season, while it marked their 14th straight win over their crosstown rival.
Saint Vincent opened the afternoon by sweeping the three doubles matches.
J.T. Gockel and
Jack Citrone started the fun with an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 spot, before the No. 2 pairing of
Josh Havrilla and Brandon Yokopenic also earned an 8-1 win, and the No. 1 tandem of
Matthew Sadusky and
Brady Johnson won 8-2.
In the No. 2 spot,
Brian Lee earned Saint Vincent's first singles victory, winning the first set 6-3, before his opponent retired.
Yokopenic then clinched the match win for the Bearcats, taking the No. 1 singles match by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
The Bearcats then swept the third through fifth spots, with Lawrence winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3,
Kyle Murray 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, and
Brennen Novotney earning a three-set victory at No. 5 by a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) score for the Bearcats' eighth victory of the afternoon.
Saint Vincent will now open a three-match homestand, and its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule, with a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, March 24 at the SVC Courts.
