DAVENPORT, Fla. (Mar. 6)- The Saint Vincent baseball team was defeated 13-4 by Clark in the Bearcats third game of their spring break games in Florida.

Clark (6-0) scored five combined runs in the first two innings, while also adding six runs in the fifth inning and one run in each of the fourth and seventh innings to breeze past Saint Vincent (0-3), which struggled to limit the Cougars bats.

The Cougars out hit Saint Vincent 17-8 in the contest.

L.J. Evans was a bright spot for the Bearcats offensively as he went 2-3 with two RBIs, while also walking twice as well.
Dalton Nicklow and
Billy Perroz both continued their hot hitting as well, each recording a hit and RBI as well.

For the second straight day,
J'Shawn Taylor recorded a pinch hit single and
Derek Hald,
Mario Disso, and
Anthony D'Urso both recorded one hit to add to the Bearcats total.

Sean McAleer took the loss on the mound for Saint Vincent, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up 12 runs (ten earned) on 12 hits. He also struck out three batters and walked three batters as well.

In relief, a combination of
Jacob Hess,
Jeremy Kreuzwieser,
Tyler Dancu, and
Andrew Stano allowed just one run over 4.2 innings, striking out five Cougars. Three of those strikeouts came from Kreuzwieser who struck out the side in sixth inning.

It was all Clark from the start as the Cougars scored four in the top of the first and added another one in the second inning to quickly open up to a 5-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning from both teams, Saint Vincent finally got on the board as Nicklow roped a two-out, RBI-double down the left field line, scoring Belmont to cut the lead to 5-1.

In the middle portions of the game, it was all Cougars as well. Clark scored one more in the fourth and after a six run fifth inning, Saint Vincent found themselves trailing by double digits as Clark opened up to a 12-1 lead.

Clark added another run in the seventh, but the Bearcats showed some fight in the bottom half of the inning. Perroz recorded an RBI-lineout to centerfield, scoring
Matthew Lockwich and the Evans roped a two-RBI double to left field, scoring Taylor and
Austin Tirpak to cut the lead to 13-4.

Neither team was able to get much going offensively in the eighth or ninth innings as Clark handed the Bearcats their third straight loss to open the season.

Ty Jones led the Cougars, going 3-5 with three runs scored and an RBI as well. Dom Mariani had three hits as well, while also driving in four runs and scoring two runs.

Brendan Bruun picked up the win on the mound for Clark, pitching two innings in relief of the Cougars starter, Heath Cockburn. Bruun pitched two shutout innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out a batter and walking one also.

The Bearcats get right back to work tomorrow, Thursday, March 7, when they take on Dominican University at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
