NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Apr. 13)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a doubleheader at Westminster on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (7-19, 5-7 PAC) came back to win game one, 8-6 after a three-run eighth inning pushed them to victory. In game two, a four-run seventh inning for the Titans (11-15, 5-5 PAC) was enough to help them to hand Saint Vincent the 5-3 defeat.

GAME ONE- Saint Vincent 8, Westminster 6
Westminster opened up to a 4-0 lead after four innings of play, but the Bearcats came back to score two in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Westminster regained the lead right back after a two-run seventh, but the Bearcats scored three in the ninth to win it, 8-6.

Derek Hald and
Vincent Amatucci combined for six of the Bearcats 11 team hits. Amatucci went 3-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Hald on the other hand went 3-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Saint Vincent.

Alex Hess added two hits in his three at bats with two runs scored and two RBIs as well.
Dylan Schmude,
Mario Disso, and
Dalton Nicklow all had one hit and one RBI in the win for Saint Vincent.

Alex Polito picked up the win in relief for SVC, pitching three innings, giving up two runs on three hits, while striking out four and walking two batters as well.
Cody May pitched three scoreless innings in relief as well, shutting out the Titans, allowing just two hits. He also struck out two and walked one batter.

Saint Vincent starter,
Tyler Dancu pitched three innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits, striking out five batters and walking just one.

After two innings, the game was still scoreless as neither offense could get much going. Westminster broke that scoreless tie with a three-run third inning and added one in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Both teams went scoreless in the fifth, but Saint Vincent finally got on the board in the sixth inning. Disso got the Bearcats on the board with an RBI sac-fly to center, scoring Hald to cut the lead to 4-1.

Later in the inning, Nicklow hit a single through the left side that scored Hess, cutting the lead to two at 4-2.

The Bearcats held the Titans scoreless in the bottom of the sixth and took their first lead of the game after a big seventh inning.

Amatucci ripped an RBI-triple to right center, scoring
J'Shawn Taylor who pinch ran for
L.J. Evans, cutting the Westminster lead to 4-3. Hald followed with an RBI-double to left field, scoring Amatucci to tie the game at four.

The Bearcats weren't done in the inning yet, as Hess sent an RBI-single to center field, scoring Hald to give Saint Vincent a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

Westminster took the lead right back in the bottom of the seventh after a two-run inning put them up 6-5.

Neither team was able to put any runs across in the eighth as the game headed to the ninth with Westminster holding a one-run lead.

In the ninth, Hald tied the game for SVC with an RBI-double to left center, scoring Amatucci once again. Hess followed with another hit, this one an RBI-single to center, scoring Hald to give the Bearcats a 7-6 lead.

The Bearcats added another run on a Schmude RBI-single to center, scoring Hess to give Saint Vincent an 8-6 lead. One runner reached in the ninth for the Titans, but Polito did not allow him to score, securing the win in game one for SVC.

Saint Vincent scored their eight runs on 11 hits, committing one error. Westminster on the other hand scored six runs on 11 hits as well.

GAME TWO- Westminster 5, Saint Vincent 3
Once again, Westminster took an early 1-0 lead in the third, but the Bearcats battled back with three runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead. The Titans scored four in the seventh and that was the difference in the game.

Hald once again led the Bearcats, going 4-4 with two runs scored.
Billy Perroz and
Dylan Schmude had the only two other hits for the Bearcats. Disso, Schmude, and Perroz had RBIs for Saint Vincent.

Jeremy Kreuzwieser took the loss on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He also struck out eight Titans and walked three as well.
Andrew Stano,
Sean McAleer, and
Andrew Root all pitched scoreless outings in relief.
Â
Westminster scored the first run of the game in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would not last long as a Perroz RBI-groundout scored Schmude to tie the game at one in the fourth inning.

In the fifth, Saint Vincent added another run on a Schmude RBI-single through the right side, scoring Hald to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless sixth inning from both teams, SVC added their third run of the game on a Disso RBI-walk, scoring Hald once again to increase the Bearcats lead to 3-1.

Westminster scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Bearcats put the tying run at the plate in the eighth but were unable to bring any runners around to score and were set down in order in the ninth as they were handed the loss in game two of the doubleheader.

Saint Vincent scored their three runs on six hits, while committing one error as well. Westminster scored five runs on nine hits, making two errors.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, April 17, traveling to Grove City for another PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Grove City.
