WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Apr. 21)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Lycoming on Sunday afternoon in Williamsport.

The Bearcats (8-20) were defeated 4-1 in a low-scoring opening game and followed with a 10-2 win over Lycoming (6-25) in game two in extra innings.

GAME 1- Lycoming 4, Saint Vincent 1
Â
In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Bearcats were limited to just two hits, falling by a 4-1 score.

Saint Vincent broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth, but the Warriors scored three in the bottom half of the inning and added an insurance run in the sixth, while also shutting SVC out the rest of the way.

Nate Davis took the loss on the mound for the Bearcats, pitching five plus innings, giving up four runs on six hits. He also walked two and struck out two Lycoming batters as well.

Joseph Burke,
Alex Polito, and
Andrew Root all threw scoreless outings in relief for Saint Vincent.

Dylan Schmude and
Dalton Nicklow recorded the lone hits for SVC, while
Billy Perroz had the only RBI.
Â
Perroz's RBI got the Bearcats on the board in the fourth inning, coming on a sacrifice fly, scoring Schmude.

However, the SVC lead would not last long. The Warriors scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead and that would be the difference. Lycoming added an insurance run in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.

SVC was shut out from the fifth inning on as the Bearcats were handed the non-conference defeat in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Saint Vincent scored their lone run on two hits, while also committing an error. Lycoming scored their four runs on seven hits, committing four errors.

GAME 2- Saint Vincent 10, Lycoming 2 (8 inn.)

The Bearcats led 2-0 through four and a half innings, before the Warriors scored two in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score. Saint Vincent erupted for eight runs in the eighth and that was the difference.

J'Shawn Taylor,
Jimmy Davis, and
Austin Tirpak all had two hits for the Bearcats. Davis added two RBIs, while Taylor had one as well. Perroz recorded a hit and two runs scored, while
Matthew Lockwich went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Alex Hess and
Jacob Auld both walked twice and scored a run, while Hess knocked one runner in, and Auld knocked in two.

Cody May picked up the win on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one batter and walking one as well. May did not allow a hit in his two innings on the bump.

Nolan Hurd started for SVC, pitching five innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He also struck out two Warriors and walked two as well, earning the no decision.

Tyler Dancu also pitched a scoreless inning in relief, striking out two batters in his lone inning of work.

Auld gave the Bearcats the lead in the second inning with an RBI-sac fly to center, scoring Perroz to put Saint Vincent up 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning, when the Bearcats added another run. This one coming on an RBI-single from Davis, scoring Taylor. Davis was thrown out attempting to get to second on the throw home, but the run counted as SVC led 2-0.

Lycoming tied it up in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs on an RBI-triple that scored one and an RBI-sac fly that tied the game at 2-2.

The teams went scoreless over the next two innings as the seven-inning game headed to extras.

The Bearcats broke it open in the eighth, erupting for an eight-run inning. Saint Vincent scored eight runs on three hits in the inning.

Auld, Hess, Lockwich, Taylor, Davis, along with
Mario Disso all recorded RBIs in the inning for the Bearcats. Lycoming went down in order in the bottom of the inning, allowing the Bearcats to salvage the doubleheader split.

Saint Vincent scored their ten runs on eight hits. The Warriors scored their two runs on four hits, while also committing two errors.

SVC returns to PAC play on Tuesday, April 23, traveling to Geneva for a doubleheader against the GT's. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Beaver Falls on Tuesday.
