Men's tennis edged in regular season finale

LATROBE, Pa. (April 20) -- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team was defeated, 5-4, by Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Geneva College in its 2024 regular season finale.

In a match that spanned more than three hours, the Bearcats (14-6, 5-3) and Golden Tornadoes (7-5, 4-4 PAC) split the three singles matches, but SVC was unable to recover from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play.

After the Golden Tornadoes took a quick 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, Saint Vincent's No. 2 pairing of Jack Citrone and Braden Yokopenic earned an 8-1 victory to even the match at 1-1. In a back-and-forth, marathon battle at No. 3 doubles, the SVC tandem of Brian Lee and August Lawrence was then edged 8-7 (8).

In singles play, Citrone earned a straight-set, 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 5, while the Bearcats' two other wins came in three sets, with Matthew Sadusky outlasting David Clark at No. 3 for a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (6) win and Lawrence winning at No. 4 by a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 score.

Prior to the Bearcats' regular-season finale, Brennen Novotny was recognized with Senior Day festivities.

The Bearcats will now prep for the 2024 PAC Championship Tournament, as they will host a first-round matchup on Tuesday, April 23, against an opponent yet to be determined.
