Bearcats Breeze Past Waynesburg, 6-1

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 15)- The Saint Vincent women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Waynesburg for their second PAC win in as many days.

The Bearcats (5-1, 3-1 PAC) opened the afternoon winning all three doubles matches to secure the lone doubles point, before winning five of the six singles matches to earn the 6-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets (0-3, 0-2 PAC). Rachel Zgurich clinched the Bearcats the match in second singles.

In doubles action, Isabella Lane and Carolina Walters earned a 6-0 win, and Marisa Hooper and Emily Pierce followed with a 6-2 win in second doubles to give the Bearcats the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match. 

Julia Runk and Bella Baumgardner also won at the third doubles position by a 6-3 final. 

Abby Donnelly earned the Bearcats their second point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in number four singles. Walters quickly finished after Donnelly, also earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top singles spot.

Zgurich then clinched the match for Saint Vincent with a 6-4, 6-1 win in number two singles. 

Sydney McWreath then picked up her first collegiate win of her young career with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the number six singles position to put SVC up 5-0. Emily Pierce then earned the Bearcats their final point of the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-1 win in number three singles.

Rebecca Kurylo lost a very tight match in the number five singles spot. She lost the match in a tiebreak by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 8-10.

The Bearcats will now hit the road, traveling to Penn State-Brandywine for a non-conference matchup on Saturday, September 21. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
