NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 25)- The Saint Vincent College women's swimming team earned a big 176-86 PAC victory on the road at Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats opened the afternoon by winning the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Fallyn Zembiec,
Valerie Clabaugh,
Emma Martz, and
Abby Leskovansky swam to the victory for SVC in a time of 1:57.94, earning the victory by five seconds.
In the first individual event of the afternoon,
Brook McDermott earned a second place result in the 1650-freestyle for Saint Vincent. McDermott swam to a finishing time of 20:05.47.
Emma Morgan also recorded a 21:09.32 result and
Ashley Thiel raced to a time of 21:33.60.
The Bearcats went 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Sarah Alexander won the event, swimming a time of 2:07.31, while
Rachel Hutchinson raced to a second place finish with a time of 2:08.52 for Saint Vincent.
SVC followed with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke. Zembiec picked up her second victory of the afternoon with a time of 1:06.81 for SVC.
Cecilia Hickin placed third in the event, swimming to a time of 1:09.99, while Thiel finished just behind her with a time of 1:10.94.
Clabaugh followed with a second place reuslt for the Bearcats, this one coming in the 100-yard breaststroke. Clabaugh finished second in a time of 1:15.59, while
Deanna Miller finished third with a time of 1:16.19.
The Bearcats won the next two events. First, Martz picked up a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.52), while Kimber Randolph finished second in that same event with a time of 2:35.46. Leskovansky followed with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, winning it in a time of 25.70.
Rachel Hutchinson placed fourth in the event with a time fo 28.53, while
Chaely Raynor finished just behind her in a time of 29.00.
Leskovansky followe with her second individual victory of the afternoon and third overall. She won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 54.94 seconds.
Teresa Grimm finished in third with a time of 59.74 for SVC as well.
Saint Vincent continued their impressive afternoon as Zembiec won the 200-yard backstroke. She swam to a winning time of 2:23.41. Hickin finished in third with a time of 2:35.49, while Thiel raced to a fourth place finish in a time of 2:36.22.
Miller and Holsey continued to add points on for SVC as they went 1-2 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Miller won the event with a time of 2:46.01, while Holsey swam to a second place finish in 2:47.25. Randolph also swam in the event, finishing fourth in a time of 2:48.76.
in the 500-yard freestyle, Alexander and Hutchinson finished in first and second place respectively. Alexander's first place finish came in a time of 5:38.23, while Hutchinson finished second in a time of 5:43.82. McDermott finished fourth, recording a time of 5:54.01.
SVC picked up wins in the final two individual events as well. Grimm won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.89 and Martz won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:21.65. Also in the butterfly, Claubaugh finished in second place (1:10.34), while Miller and Randolph went 3-4 in the 200-yard IM.
Saint Vincent ended their day with another relay victory, this one coming in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Zembiec, Hutchinson, Grimm, and Leskovansky won the event in a time of 3:59.37 for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, January 31 competing in the two-day Carnegie Mellon PA Western Invite. The first day of the meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday evening.Â
