Bearcats cruise past Mount Aloysius in non-conference matchup

LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 18)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned a 69-53 victory in a non-conference matchup against Mount Aloysius in Latrobe on Tuesday night.

After leading by four at the half (37-33), the Bearcats (3-2) outscored Mount Aloysius (0-3) by a 32-20 margin in the second half to earn the 16-point victory.

Makenna Maier led the Bearcats with 13 points and four rebounds. Danielle Pontius added 10 points and four boards, while Brooke Evans scored nine points, while grabbing five rebounds. Olivia Yancy scored eight, while Camdon Bashor added seven points and four boards.

Emerson Peffer scored six points with ten rebounds. 
 
It was an evenly played opening five minutes of play as both offenses were efficient. At the first media timeout, Saint Vincent held a 12-10 lead. Bashor had five of those 12 points, including two rebounds as well.
 
That back-and-forth game continued over the remaining four plus minutes in the opening quarter. SVC slightly outscored the Mounties 6-5 to take an 18-15 lead into the second quarter. Bashor finished the opening quarter with seven points and three rebounds to lead Saint Vincent.
 
The Bearcats began to build a lead over the first few minutes of the second quarter. Saint Vincent outscored the Mounties 14-7 over the first six plus minutes to gain a double-digit lead at 32-22.
 
Over the remaining four minutes in the half, Mount Aloysius went on an 11-5 run to close the half, but Saint Vincent still led 37-33 at the break. Bashor scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds in the half for Saint Vincent. Evans added six points and three boards as well, while nine different Saint Vincent players scored at least two points in the half.
 
SVC shot 16-36 (44%) from the field in the opening half and 3-10 from the three-point line. Mount Aloysius also shot 44% (11-25) in the half and 2-8 (25%) from the three-point line. SVC forced 10 turnovers, while the Bearcats turned it over six times of their own in the first half.
 
The defensive battle continued into the second half, but the Saint Vincent lead held consistent. The Bearcats still led by five (49-44) with just under three minutes to go in the third quarter.
 
After the Mounties cut the lead to three (49-46), SVC went on a 6-0 run to close out the quarter with a 55-46 lead.
 
That Saint Vincent momentum carried into the fourth quarter. The Bearcats went on a 10-2 run to open the quarter up and the game as they took a 17-point lead (65-48) with 5:14 remaining in the game.
 
The Bearcats outscored Mount Aloysius 14-7 in the fourth quarter to solidify the victory.

As a team, the Bearcats shot 42% from the field, while holding the Mounties to shoot just 36% from the field. Mount Aloysius shot just 3-17 from the three-point line in the win for Saint Vincent.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, November 21 taking on Penn State-Behrend in a non-conference game at Waynesburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
