Women’s basketball downs Penn State-Behrend at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 21) — Saint Vincent used a dominant start and a balanced offensive showing to earn a 75–58 victory over Penn State Behrend in non-conference play on Friday night.

The Bearcats came out strong, controlling the opening quarter with stifling defense and efficient shooting to take a 19–5 lead after ten minutes. Saint Vincent maintained its momentum throughout the second quarter, heading into halftime up 36–27.

The Bearcats continued to build on their advantage in the second half, outscoring the Lions 39–31 over the final two quarters. Behind a crisp offensive performance, Saint Vincent shot 50 percent from the field, while its defensive pressure held Behrend to just 32 percent shooting.

Danielle Pontius led a well-balanced SVC attack, finishing with 16 points and three assists to guide the Bearcats' offense.

Brooke Evans added 10 points and three rebounds, while Camdon Bashor contributed nine points and four boards. Avina Norman and Carmella McDole each chipped in nine points and five rebounds, giving the Bearcats valuable production in the paint. Saint Vincent also benefited from steady efforts by Makenna Maier and Emerson Peffer, who both recorded seven points and five rebounds, helping SVC control the interior throughout the night.

With contributions throughout the lineup and strong play on both ends of the floor, the Bearcats led wire-to-wire, securing another convincing early-season victory.

Saint Vincent returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, with a matchup against Mount Union. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Waynesburg University.
