WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 22) — The Saint Vincent women's basketball team dropped a 77-61 non-conference matchup to the Mount Union Purple Raiders Saturday afternoon at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg.
Mount Union grabbed control in the opening minutes and never looked back, building a 14-12 lead after one quarter, then exploding for a 29-18 second quarter to take a 43-30 cushion into halftime.
The Raiders maintained their momentum throughout the second half, outscoring Saint Vincent 34–31 and putting the game away with a 22-21 closing frame.
The Bearcats struggled offensively, converting just 23 of 58 from the field (39.7 %) and only 5 of 19 from beyond the arc (26.3 %). Meanwhile, Mount Union shot 41.0 % (25 of 61) and an efficient 88.5 % from the free-throw line (23 of 26).
On the Saint Vincent side,
Avina Norman paced the team with 16 points, going 6-9 from the floor and grabbing 7 rebounds. The Bearcats received additional contributions from
Camdon Bashor with eight points,
Reese Gadsby with eight, and
Makenna Maier with seven.
For Mount Union, the effort was led by junior forward Mckayla Dunkle, who poured in 26 points on 9-16 shooting and added 9 rebounds. Sophomore guard Elizabeth Mason chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds to bolster the Raiders' balanced attack.
Saint Vincent will take the next week off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action on Monday, December 1 with their first PAC matchup of the season at Bethany. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
