LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 1)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team hosted a home tri-match against Westminster and Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats fell to Westminster 3-2 in the opener, before downing Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 in the finale of the tri-match.
Game One- Westminster 3, Saint Vincent 2
The Bearcats dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the Titans, falling by set scores of 26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 25-27, 15-13.Â
After suffering a narrow 26-24 loss in the opening set, the Bearcats roared back to even the match, dominating the second set 25-17. The third went to Westminster, 25-19, but SVC responded again by edging the fourth 27-25 to force a decisive fifth. In the final set the Titans held on 15-13.Â
Statistically the teams were nearly neck-and-neck. Westminster tallied 68 kills on 214 attempts for a .173 attack efficiency, while Saint Vincent posted 61 kills on 206 attempts for a .180 hitting percentage.
The Bearcats out-blocked the Titans 14 to 10 and registered one more ace (6 to 5), while Westminster posted 64 assists and 105 digs to SVC's 60 assists and 101 digs.Â
Individually, Saint Vincent got strong efforts from Dakota Hershberger with 15 kills, 21 digs and 3 aces and Meegan Williams who notched 13 kills, 19 digs and chipped in a block.Â
Lauren Fox and Vivian Wirth each contributed 6 blocks. Sani Jones added 28 assists and Bailey Green added 24 assists and two service aces.
Game Two- Saint Vincent 3, Pitt-Greensburg 0
The Bearcats posted a convincing 3-0 sweep over Pitt–Greensburg, with set scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 in the finale of the tri-match.
With the victory, Saint Vincent moves to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the PAC, while Pitt-Greensburg drops to 2-24 and 0-6 in the AMCC.Â
Saint Vincent displayed efficient offense throughout the match. The Bearcats finished with 43 kills on 98 attempts, for a .276 attack percentage. Pitt–Greensburg had 18 kills on 95 attempts, hitting exactly .000.
The Bearcats also edged out the Bobcats in serving and defense—recording 10 aces to 6, and 7 blocks to 5. On the dig front, SVC piled up 50 digs while Pitt–Greensburg had 34.Â
Individually, the Bearcats were led by Williams with 15 kills, 28 attack attempts (.393), and 11 digs. Fox had 10 kills on 19 attempts (.421) and 6 blocks. Hershberger added 9 kills and 8 digs.
On defense, Fox again had 6 blocks, and Madie Eagler contributed 13 assists and 3 digs.Â
The Bearcats dominated from the outset, taking both first two sets by identical large margins (25-12, 25-12), then closed out the match in the third (25-17). Their balanced attack and strong blocking gave them control. Meanwhile Pitt–Greensburg was unable to find consistent offensive rhythm in the loss.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, November 5, hosting Waynesburg in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with senior day festivities taking place prior to the game.
