LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 5) – The Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over visiting Waynesburg University Wednesday night in the Carey Center on senior night.
The Bearcats won by set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.
Saint Vincent's attack was balanced throughout the evening, led by
Dakota Hershberger, who posted a match-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs and four blocks.
Meegan Williams added 10 kills, three aces and 11 digs, while
Vivian Wirth chipped in seven blocks in the middle. Setter
Bailey Green finished with 17 assists, and
Aubrey Siwula led the defense with 14 digs.
After a tight first set, the Bearcats took control midway through the frame with a 5-1 run to go up 18-14, capped by a Hershberger kill. Waynesburg fought back to cut the margin to 22-20, but a service ace from Williams and another kill by Hershberger sealed the 25-21 opening-set victory.
Saint Vincent carried that momentum into the second set, using strong serving and efficient hitting to pull away early. An 8-0 run that included two aces from Williams gave the Bearcats a 17-8 advantage, and they never looked back in taking the frame 25-15.
In the third set, the Bearcats once again controlled the pace, hitting .290 as a team while holding Waynesburg to a .068 percentage. Saint Vincent closed the match on a 7-2 spurt, with Wirth's block on match point securing the sweep.
As a team, Saint Vincent finished with 42 kills, eight aces, nine blocks and 53 digs, compared to Waynesburg's 26 kills and 43 digs.

Sani Jones.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, November 8 with a matchup at Bethany in their regular season finale. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 noon on Saturday.
