Bearcats fall on the road at Hood; Iuzzolino enters 1,000 point club

FREDERICK, Md. (Nov. 22) — Saint Vincent dropped its first game of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 111–98 to unbeaten Hood College in a high-scoring non-conference matchup.

Both offenses came out firing, combining for 123 first-half points as Hood took a 67–56 lead into the break.

Saint Vincent continued to score at an efficient clip in the second half, but the Blazers maintained their advantage behind hot shooting from the floor and consistent trips to the free throw line to close out the 13-point decision.

A major milestone highlighted the afternoon for the Bearcats, as senior guard Mike Iuzzolino scored the 1,000th point of his Saint Vincent career during the contest.

Saint Vincent turned in an impressive offensive performance, shooting 50.7 percent from the field, 39.0 percent from three-point range (16-for-41) and 85.7 percent at the foul line.

Hood, however, countered with a blistering 63.9 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from deep while also holding a 35–28 edge on the glass and scoring 60 points in the paint.

Dev Ostrowski led the Bearcats with 25 points, knocking down seven three-pointers on 9-for-19 shooting from the field. Maxwell Gordon put together a standout all-around effort with 19 points and 10 assists, adding three steals and a block to record a double-double.

Terek Crosby provided 17 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Iuzzolino finished with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including a pair of threes as part of his milestone outing. Off the bench, Torin Ward gave Saint Vincent an efficient spark with 12 points in eight minutes on a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor.

Saint Vincent will look to bounce back as non-conference play continues next week with a road matchup at Case Western Reserve on Sunday, November 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Ohio.
